Interim Public Relations Director

As the Interim Public Relations Director, my team was in the midst of adjusting to a change in leadership. This workshop helped by allowing me the time to understand my team's genius and how to best manage their abilities—both in our specific area and across the UC team. I also learned a lot about myself as a leader and how to respond in certain situations. The best parts were the organic teachable moments; those lessons have really stuck with me. I expected the session to be valuable, so there were no surprises there. I look forward to the next workshop.

I appreciated being able to express the concerns and challenges facing higher education in a judgment free, honest, vulnerable environment. I appreciated the potential solutions posed by Mr. Holmes and the challenge he gave to reclaim a piece of my autonomy in an environment I can not necessarily control. It was also beneficial to learn of the strengths my other colleagues possessed to learn how to best leverage the assets already present in my department!

The workshop was insightful, informative, and motivational, and it helped me gain an even greater appreciation for the strengths that empower our team to succeed. It also encouraged me to reconsider how individual parts function as essential components of our collective whole. I was surprised to realize that an effective workshop experience should encompass the diversity of a group rather than a group’s acceptance of a singular solution. A working genius mindset embraces a thought process that welcomes everyone as a contributor and empowers each individual to acknowledge personal limits as an opportunity for others to shine.

I always enjoy the workshops led by Phillip. He makes us take the mirror and see each other for who we are professionally and personally. This helps us to be a better and stronger team. Before the workshops with Phillip, our team had a good mesh but a disjointed workflow. We existed in different units in a department. After the workshops with Phillip, we work together as one unit with one voice. The most surprising thing to me about our team is how distracted we get with each other (because we enjoy each other), not knowing that we aren't considering guests' feelings or professionalism. We learned to be mindful of guests and always stay professional.
