Marie Gin creates a world in which we both want to be a part of but also fear getting lost in it. Elena embarks on a tumbling adventures after loosing her family in an attack lead by sinister creatures. After barely escaping with her life, accompanied by her neighbour Lucas, she sets off to right wrongs done not only to them but to a world she had no idea even existed. A great debut novel by this up and coming author. Watch out for the second novel, I know I'll be waiting!

After not picking up a book I'm years - I met Marie Gin at Comic Con. Enthralled by the story line and her passion, I chose to purchase the last regret. WOW! What a read. I was captivated every step of the way and loved the anticipation of what comes next. Incredibly well written, Marie mixes fantasy with reality so beautifully. I finished the book as quickly as possible. I just could not put it down. I am very much looking forward to the whole series as it is released. You go on a brilliant journey of self discovery with Elena - the main character. You are drawn in, enticed and left wanting more. You are hooked in her world. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am so happy I chose to purchase the last regret. It certainly wasn't a regret for me.

I need more. After a brief meeting with the author at Supanova, it took mere moments hearing their spiel for me to be convinced this is a book I would like to read. In what felt like an utterly too short novel, the world building was incredible. You become invested in these characters, became enthralled in their mission, and are left dying to know “what happens next?!”. To me, these are the signs of a great book. The balance between giving away too much and not enough is delicate, and I think it is done well by Marie Gin. The tension is palpable between some of the lead characters, and I think readers will be divided between the new “Team Jacob or Team Edward” options. I hope in the next eagerly awaited instalment that we learn more about the lead character and her trials and emotional process. She was only a child when we first met, so surely her persona and maturity deepens a little more. More romance would also never hurt…let’s face it, we all like to escape from reality for a moment by living vicariously though the characters of our chosen books… right?!

I don’t usually read a lot of fantasy, but the author had a stall at a local market day, and wanting to support a local and indie author, I thought I check it out, and I’m glad I did. The story was good, it has a slight Harry Potter feel, but more grown up, It also reminded me a bit of Clive Barkers Weaveworld, I think it could have used a bit more detail in places, and the pacing seamed rushed in spots, but overall, it was very good. As this is the authors first book, I am interested to see what she comes out with next.

Oh my god I am so excited! I had read the previous edition of this book and found it extremely promising as a series and was really excited to read more. And my wish has been granted. We can see how much work and thought Marie Gin has put into rethinking and evolving her book and the world she has created, to make room for an absolute gem of a series. So the original book has now been extensively explored and detailed, to the point where this edition only makes up for half of the first one! There is that much more detail and and that many scenes added, which gives the reader more intimate insights into Elena and the Nepheines' lives at the castle and into their adventures. I didn't realise what it was missing until Marie Gin upped the game and surpassed anything I could wish for. Now, to review this first book: Elena is a human girl in a small town in 17th century France. She loves her family and her small town life until her village is attacked by sinister creatures. She and her teenage neighbor, Lucas, barely escape that fateful night with their lives. As they try and flee the next attacks, they meet a strange creature who calls himself Marcus and his kind Nepheine. At first suspicious of him, they hesitate to follow him into his world, but they have nothing left to lose, are starved and exhausted. So they decide to trust him, if only temporarily. As Elena explores that hidden world, she also discovers her own nature. Accompanied by Lucas, Marcus and Gabriel, she sets off to right wrongs done not only to them but to a world she had no idea even existed. A prophecy, a stone of immense power, love, friendship and adventure. A great read for young adult and fantasy readers.

The last regret is such an enticing book. I could not put it down !! I zoomed through this book - no actually I devoured it. The last regret is set in 17th century France, and what I loved so much about this book is the language behind it is not ye olde English which I find incredibly tiresome and difficult to comprehend, this book was written to make anyone who opened it up understand the plot line and story. I really loved how well written and thought out each of the characters were, from Elena to Claudia the characters had very strong storylines. There was so many twists and turns in this book it literally had me gasping, especially with Lucas 😅. I am still not sure who I prefer in the love triangle but it’s good either way.

Marie Gin transports you to another world, another dimension with her first book of the Stone of Four Fires series - The Last Regret. It was an impeccable read and you find yourself unable to put it down. The Last Regret takes an interesting spin on mystical creatures and fantasy beings - far from what we’re used to of vampires and werewolves. The writing flowed and was elucidating and the characters were so incredibly detailed you can envision them almost instantly. You find yourself attached to the characters and their personal stories and completely invested in their lives. This book is just the beginning platform of what the talented Marie Gin will surprise us with in her next instalments. And we are waiting for it! In a world where fantasy books are on the rise, The Last Regret is your top shelf go to!
