I've owned my TruTrainer for several years and did a lot of hours on it, be it by TrainerRoad or just to ride how I want. The feeling with these extremely well-built rollers comes very close to riding outside. All the skills you need outside can be exercised, because your whole body has to work. As well I'm very satisfied with the perfect service from the manufacturers, if you have any questions.

I've been an enthusiastic and sometimes competitive cyclist for over 50 years, 32 of which were spent in the bicycle industry, and all of them in a northern climate, so riding a trainer is pretty much inevitable, and I've tried many. The ones that hold your bike in a fixed position were never compelling - to me they're like riding an appliance, so I eventually gravitated to rollers. I found standard rollers to be an improvement and could convince myself to use them. But even though they were engaging, they weren't particularly realistic, mainly lacking in the areas of momentum (coasting) and resistance. Then a couple years ago I heard about these and decided to go for it and ordered a set in Dec 2022 with their power resistance roller installed. The build quality and materials all seem about as good as you could hope for, even the packaging was impressive. Out of the box they're extremely smooth, very quiet, and resistance builds naturally as you shift to bigger gears or increase your cadence, all while providing a coasting effect when you slow or stop pedaling - unlike any other roller that I know of - all of which conspire to allow for realistic out-of-the-saddle efforts. As for the power resistance unit, I can only speak to its effectiveness as accessed through their app, as I have yet to engage with Rouvy, Zwift, etc. - that's not really my kind of thing (yet). The app does allow for you to alter the resistance, but it seems redundant to just shifting your bike, given how realistic the rollers are anyway, though it does provide you with power data in the event you don't have another source for that information. I guess my advice would be to only go with the "smart" version if you intend to engage with one of the smart trainer interactive apps. And as is the case with almost anything mechanical, things can happen, and when one of the bearings started to make some noise the people at TruTrainer were very responsive and helped me get it sorted quickly. They were also available and attentive when I had questions about connectivity and compatibility during initial set up. This is one of the rare products that I can recommend without hesitation.

Now it is some thousand miles that I am a proud owner of Trutrainer Rollers - it took some time until I hit the order button but it was definitively worth it. Not only is the ride feel very near the real thing what makes night sessions in the living room the normal usage especially in winter, but the design is so beautiful and straight that even looking at it is fun - everything you need is inside, no clunky attachments to add or cables to connect. The only downside I see is that my Garmin is still not able to control the rollers correctly - every other software seems to connect fine, so the problem is on the Garmin side of things, but it might be worth another try ...
Update: Garmin Edge control issues mentioned above were resolved with a subsequent firmware update. Garmin Edge devices now display and control speed and power correctly.

TruTrainer SmarLoad Rollers are worth every penny. I was impressed with the packaging, the personal note, the easy assembly, the easy calibrating of the power, and last but not least the ride quality. Incredibly smooth. I've been riding an older set of rollers thinking that they were just fine, until I upgraded to the Smartload rollers. Absolutely incredible with Zwift. The power numbers are in line with my Quarq power meter. The build quality is second to none. This is an investment worth every last cent. Thank you TruTrainer.

“ We often talk about quality and customer service being very important. Since COVID everything has become more difficult, but with Mike and the TruTrainer company, you don’t feel that at all. Outstanding service. High-quality manufacturing materials and excellent sales service — and even better after-sales support. You send a message and get a response within the hour. I recommend these rollers with confidence. For my part, I ride with the connected version. I had some small difficulties, but Mike did everything to make it work. Thank you to your team and keep up the good work and service. ”
