I'm so grateful for the support I've received from the After Academia course. Before joining, I had followed Ashley's content on LinkedIn and always appreciated the thoughtfulness of her posts. I completed a PhD program about a year and a half ago and my post graduation job search was not going well. I was feeling demoralized.
After joining, I was very impressed by the the course content, which included thoroughly researched guidance on aspects of the job search that I honestly had never fully considered. I always struggled with communicating the value of the skills I gained while completing a PhD program to potential employers outside of academia. Ashley had plenty of great advice for steps that I could take to make myself look more attractive to employers. It was great to have access to so many wonderful resources.
I also greatly benefitted from the structured schedule of the program and having access to a full community of people in similar situations. Those two things put a little bit more pressure on me to actually take the steps I needed to make myself a stronger job applicant. I've started to receive call-backs for interviews, and have found that I walk into them with a little bit more confidence than I had even 6 months ago. I highly recommend this program if you are feeling stuck in your transition out of academia.
After 2 years as a Postdoc I finally decided to leave academia and transition to industry. I was not happy anymore, and I understood that I needed to change that situation. I made a decision but needed guidance, support, and the possibility to meet people that were in the same situation I was. I didn't know where to start from, and most importantly I felt like I had nothing to offer to a company. Enrolling in Ashley Ruba's mentorship program was the best choice I could have ever made. Ashley is a patient, caring, and motivating coach. The program is well focused on everything you need to start transitioning. Thanks to her I learnt to value my skills, and started to navigate a world that was completely new and unknown to me. After just a few weeks I was aware of what I needed to do to make the transition possible. I would heartily recommend Ashley Ruba's mentorship program to every academic interested in starting a new career :)
Ashley has been absolutely amazing - she is so thoughtful and responsive, and her content has been INCREDIBLY helpful. Somehow she manages to be both phenomenal at what she does while also taking the time to connect. I can't recommend her program enough! I finished my PhD a few months ago and am slowly starting to land interviews. I am hopeful one of these will work out soon! Thank you so much again Ashely! :)
My name is Sakshi Sharda. I completed my PhD in life sciences and have been looking to find a career outside of academia. The process of job hunting has been very lonely for me. When I heard about Ashley's "after academia" workshop, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to feel supported. And it has been just that! Thanks to Ashley, I made my first-ever post on LinkedIn and the count continues to grow :) Ashley is always prompt in answering my queries on CVs and cover letters. She gives precise feedback and, most importantly, is always on the lookout for resources and connections to help me navigate the career path I want to take. In the "after academia" program, she has brought together a group of wonderfully talented and extremely supportive PhDs who also wish to transition out of academia. I no longer feel alone in this journey, and it's reassuring to know that someone has my back. Thank you, Ashley!
I'm a Research Scientist navigating life beyond postdoctoral training. I've been exploring alternative paths outside academia through personal research, webinars, podcasts, LinkedIn searches, and attending career events. It's been a slow and time-consuming process.
Ashley's 'After Academia' course has been incredibly helpful for me. It provides a structured framework and roadmap for the job search, drawing insights from her own experience and others who transitioned from academia. The course has saved me a lot of time and eased the sense of feeling lost in the career exploration maze. The material is clear and high-quality, and Ashley's teaching skills are exceptional.
What stands out is the sense of community the course fosters. Connecting with fellow participants in a supportive environment is invaluable during this challenging career transition. Ashley's personal check-ins are a thoughtful touch that keeps us on track.
I'm genuinely thankful I joined the course. Appreciate the effort in putting together such a comprehensive and impactful resource
I am a postdoc in psychology. I wasn't sure about my application materials. Ashley convincingly showcases how to improve them. I really like that she doesn't just tell how one should do it, but also tell why one should do it. With that, I could make my own decision how to design my materials and make my own judgement on whether it is good or not.
I also like the community that she builds up. It makes me feel that I am not alone.
She charges a fair price.
I am happy to recommend her course.
I'm a postdoc who recently relocated to a different country and is now seeking jobs outside academia. Throughout the After Academia program, Ashley was knowledgeable, supportive, and didn't hesitate to spend time and effort navigating our difficulties together. The supportive space that Ashley created was invaluable during the lonely process of searching for a career beyond academia.
As a biochemistry PhD seeking to leave academia, I was somewhat lost after ending my teaching job straight out of graduate school. I needed help knowing exactly how and where to start my transition to industry. After Academia provided a base camp for me to launch expeditions into the world of non-academic jobs, helping me keep my feet on the ground in what can be a rather dizzying array of new knowledge I had to obtain. Ashley was a fantastic organizer and highly responsive, and the community was a significant source of support for my efforts. I recommend this program to anyone seeking to move beyond their academic path into a broader realm of opportunities.
Ashley’s course is a beacon of light in the often foggy landscape of job hunting. It’s not just a course, but a journey of self-reflection and growth, filled with genuine insights and practical advice that are incredibly valuable. It is more than just a learning resource; it's a community.
Being part of Ashley's network has been an enriching experience, and the guidance provided has been instrumental in navigating my career path.
What sets this course apart is Ashley's authenticity and openness in sharing her professional journey. Her anecdotes from diverse roles paint a vibrant and tangible panorama of the working world. These narratives not only inspire optimism but also provide reassurance that despite the inevitable hurdles of career transition, there lies a fulfilling role at the end of this path. So, thank you Ashley for creating such a valuable resource and great community.
I am a social psychologist finishing up my Ph.D. After I realized that applied research excites me more and my desire to test sociology's ability in everyday problem-solving, I decided to leave academia. Since then, I have started a lonely journey of transitioning. Yes, there are tons of helpful resources online, and people are super nice. But without any broad-picture guidance, it is still very hard to know what should be prioritized, what questions to ask, and what resources are actually relevant and important. Ashley provides a playbook that fills this gap. And she offers more than that.
From After Academia, not only did I learn about how to manage the transition/job search process, but I also started to develop habits that would benefit me later in my career (e.g., building connections). Ashley's feedback on resume and LinkedIn profile is incredibly detailed and helpful. Ashley also created a community with very lovely people who cheered each other on all the time. Everyone's generosity in sharing their experiences and work allowed me to see the broader world and helped me overcome biases that hindered my transition.
So, I highly recommend people to try this program, especially if you are looking for personalized advice and friends to fight the same battle.
I'm a senior research scientist working in academia, and have been looking to pivot to industry for years. However, I've always felt like this change is too overwhelming to tackle on my own.
Working with Ashley in After Academia has given me clarity, structure, and a community to guide and encourage me during this challenging change. Her ability to communicate best practices in getting a job is wonderful, and her feedback on my resume has been really valuable.
Highly recommend to any academics looking for a change.
I am a recent PhD in Archaeological Science. Due to personal and financial reasons, I decided to pivot from academia to the business world but really had no idea where to start. Ashley's course was offered at a price point I could afford and was delivered in a manner that was organized, efficient, informative, helpful, and social. I feel much more confident about how to approach seeking, applying, and interviewing for professional positions, as well as how to leverage my LinkedIn presence and network. Would definitely recommend the platform to others hoping to put their academic skill set to good use outside of the ivory tower!
Taking the course by Ashley has been one of the best decisions I have made lately! As a PhD candidate, I often felt uninformed about alternative paths outside of academia. Thanks to Ashley's course, I learnt so much about the non-academic job market surrounded by a supportive, amazing community of fellow PhDs. I definitely recommend the course to all PhD candidates to gather insights into the welter of opportunities that lie ahead of us after graduation and start working on actionable products to ensure a successful job search.
Ashley has been such a wonderful resource during this stressful job search time. I didn't even know really where to start, and I feel like I have so much since joining their group. I also really, really appreciate the supportive space she's created; I was feeling really stressed and lonely, so having a supportive community is one of the best aspects of this entire course. Would 100000% recommend Ashley; they're kind, knowledgable, supportive, and just all around an awesome resource.

I was a recent Cognitive Psych PhD grad when I met Ashley. I had little idea of how to navigate the transition out of academia and even less of an idea of how to stand out in the current job market. During our 1:1, she reviewed my LinkedIn profile with me and talked me through my goals for job hunting in a way that helped me articulate what I needed from my position to feel fulfilled. I also followed her content on LinkedIn and After Academia to further benefit from her sage advice. I’m happy to say her help contributed to my getting my dream role with a company I am excited to join. I am so thankful for people like Ashley who pass on their knowledge to job seekers with empathy and compassion for their experiences. I can’t recommend Ashley enough.
I'm a recently graduated PhD and I signed up to work with Ashley after ~4 months of job searching with very minimal luck. I applied to 6 jobs while working with Ashley, got through multiple rounds of interviews for 2, and got an amazing six-figure offer at 1. Ashley's resources, knowledge, and feedback are invaluable and I could not recommend After Academia enough! It's also incredibly encouraging to be surrounded with a community of folks in very similar situations.
I am a PhD candidate wrapping up my program. I was staring down the postdoc path, and for many reasons, staying in academia any longer or moving for a low-paying job didn't make any sense to me. However, the industry job search looked incredibly intimidating, and I needed to figure out how to start. Ashley's program is invaluable. She's clearly put in a ton of time compiling information and resources that would be worth the program's cost alone. Not only do you get all those resources in one place, but you also get access to social support from a community of fellow academics on the job search and live help through webinars and office hours. Ashley also provides realistic information on the state of the job market from actual recruiters and hiring managers. I am much more prepared to enter the job market after this program.
Working with Ashley in the After Academia program is fantastic. She has immense attention to detail and care about the quality of her work. The individual feedbacks to CV and LinkedIn were way beyond what I expected.
In addition, the webinars are well thought and they really changed the way I structure my CVs and LinkedIn profiles. 10/10 recommend!
I am pleased to share my experience with Ashley Ruba's career coaching program, "After Academia," which has been instrumental in my journey as a gerontology Ph.D. transitioning out of academia.
Before enrolling in Ashley's program, I found myself at a crossroads, feeling lost and uncertain about how to navigate a career outside the traditional academic sphere. Having realized that many academics lack insights into non-academic job markets, I understood the need to equip myself with the essential skills for this transition.
Ashley's program provided the guidance I desperately needed. One of the challenges I faced was condensing my extensive CV into a concise and effective one-page resume. Ashley's expertise in this area, stemming from her own successful transition, proved invaluable. She not only understands the intricacies of leaving academia but also excels in imparting this knowledge to others.
The comprehensive approach taken by Ashley in "After Academia" goes beyond mere resume building. She shares her wealth of knowledge through helpful guides and resources tailored to the unique challenges faced by Ph.D. professionals transitioning into new career paths. Ashley's recent experience in making a successful transition herself gives her coaching a real-world relevance that resonated with me.
While I believe in my capabilities to navigate this transition independently, having Ashley as a coach added immense value to my job search. Her willingness to review my resume, provide constructive feedback, and be available for any questions created a supportive environment that instilled confidence in my decisions.
In conclusion, Ashley Ruba's After Academia program has been a guiding light in my journey out of academia. Her expertise, shared experiences, and personalized coaching approach have been instrumental in shaping my transition. I wholeheartedly recommend her program to any Ph.D. professional seeking a seamless and successful transition into non-academic careers.
I’m a final year PhD candidate in the department of Criminal Justice and Criminology. Prior to working with Ashley, I didn’t really know what it entailed transitioning and exploring my options outside academia. However, Ashley was very realistic with us and encouraging us on the importance of targeting a specific career and being intentional with our job search. The webinars each week were very helpful in preparing and loved the way it was piece meals. Ashley gave good feedback on my resume and enjoyed the webinars and content each week.
