Jo has been an absolutely fantastic copywriting teacher. Writing makes up such a large part of my role (in marketing), but it was something that I really lacked confidence and direction in. Additionally, it's been a very long time since I've actively had to learn new skills, but from the start Jo was so understanding and encouraging and created a programme that fit my needs perfectly.
Upon completing the course, I am so much more comfortable and purposeful with my writing, and I am beyond grateful for everything she has taught me.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jo and the All Things Words team as part of a transformational project at Loughborough Business School. This project saw All Things Words rewrite copy across our Business School website, all our postgraduate course webpages, and other ad-hoc projects. Jo took to these projects with a calm and collected manner, despite some challenging deadlines (and stakeholders!).
Our copy has been hugely improved – what was once before pretty dry, drab and classic higher education copy now has a new lease of life thanks to Jo’s work. Jo’s input was really beneficial in terms of providing extra resource and a fresh pair of eyes. For example, for our course pages, Jo met individually with each programme director to get valuable nuggets of information from them that would resonate with prospective students, before embedding these within the copy. Her copy is clear, concise, well-structured and overall excellent quality.
I have received positive feedback from several colleagues that have worked with Jo, or noticed our new copy. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jo and would highly recommend any institution to work with her to ‘banish the blah’ from their copy.

It was obvious that All Things Words had a wealth of experience working with other universities on their copy and content, so they had a great understanding of the needs of our target audience. They helped us and our internal stakeholders to really stop and think about the way we have written copy and content in the past – and guided us on how our target audiences are engaging with copy right now.
Before working with All Things Words, I would say our copy was very factual and to the point. But after working with Jo and her team, we now have more inspirational and emotive copy that reflects the new identity we wanted for the business school. Jo and her writers felt like an extension of our team. We learnt new skills by working together and they also freed us up to focus on other things. Jo has worked with us here at UWE Bristol for many years, so when we were looking for someone to write some micro stories about our research projects in the College of Business and Law, she was front of mind as someone who could help.
We needed copy that is to the point and gets visitors excited about our research. Jo interviewed our academics face to face to home in on the core aim of each project and then translated it into easily digestible copy. The micro stories she created are now being used on large banner posters displayed on different floors in the Business School to give people a snapshot of the wide-ranging impactful work taking place at UWE Bristol.
I particularly enjoyed being part of the interviews with her, and how she focused in on the key message for each project. We would have no hesitation to work with her again on case study projects.

We got Jo and her team to help us review and rework a huge amount of copy on our Business School pages last year, after a large brand repositioning project. A lot of our content had been developed piecemeal over a number of years, and was too long and not in line with our new messaging. So after being recommended to Jo by several contacts, we asked All Things Words to work their magic on it for us.
The copy they came back with is now much more in line with the tone and messaging we wanted for our new brand. It’s clearer, better structured and has clear calls to action. Most importantly, we now have a solid platform in place we can build on across other channels. Great copy, great service and a safe pair of hands. Highly recommended.

To support our degree projects at Coursera, we needed a person who could speak UK higher education language to shape the key messages of our programs and convey those persuasively to global markets. We’ve now worked with Jo and her team on a number of in-depth program pages and we’ve had great feedback from all our university partners on the quality of the copy!
I particularly appreciate her and her team's ability to tailor the tone and voice of the university brand they’re working with. We host the programs of lots of different universities on our platform, so it was important to us to have that flex. The team also has great research skills and have helped us source extra information and relevant stats to support the copy, where needed. All of this while working to tight deadlines!

I was looking for someone who has experience, but also a fresh perspective on what university copy can look like. I’d seen Jo’s work being praised on LinkedIn, so I investigated in more detail, liked what I saw and invited her to collaborate.
We commissioned All Things Words to work with us to create a new program description for one of our priority programs, the Master of Liberal Arts – which we knew was being let down by academic, fluffy copy. Drawing together key messages from a team of academics, Jo created copy that was much more to the point, highlighting in a more compelling and straightforward way what this program is really about.
For the team, it was a great opportunity to learn how to approach such a project and, by surveying academics, we arrived at a strong set of messages to allow us not only to create a program page but also to revise holistically our communication approach.
In short, Chat-GPT will not do! If you want to stand out, you need some brains on it. Plus the writing is just the tip of the iceberg - the ‘invisible research’ preceding writing is where the sweat is. The writing is the rework of all the hard work.
