If you’re an “out of network” early stage founder - Being a part of a founder cohort program or Antler or Y Combinator or 500 Startups is a non-negotiable. Being around people who share your obsession with creation changes everything. launch house and Antler showed me something powerful: 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲. Here's what I learned about founder potential: When you're in an accelerator with a binary outcome (funding or rejection), you discover your true capacity. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝟲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸'𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹? Once you see what's possible under pressure, it permanently reframes your perspective. You start moving at a different pace because you understand your real potential. This isn't about accelerators. It's about surrounding yourself with people who force you to level up and putting yourself in situations where average isn't an option.

“Have you ever thought of building your own startups?” “What if your silly idea could turn into the next unicorn?” “But at the same time you have no idea where or how to start?” Let this post might be THE SIGN for you! 😎 For the past few months I've been joining Antler Indonesia as part of their founder residency program #ID7 . Through very highly selective screening process, chosen among the top 2% from 5000 applicants was a mind blowing milestone for me. In this program I met with 100 fellows founders with such fascinating backgrounds, from aerospace engineering, fellow silicon valley, web3 & crypto master, AI hacker, serialpreneur and many more! The value of being part of this network itself has been life changing for me. We work together through multiple bootcamps, match made our team, brainstorm ideas from scratch, build the business model, validate to market, pitch to antler, rejected, repeat again the same cycle, now I've unlocked new skillset : I could develop complete new business pitch deck overnight 🤣 But through all the rejections, team break ups, I also gained my strength and resilience, know how to pivot and bounce back quickly. A life hack for sure. Because I know down the road, as founder, things will get even messier, there will be multiple challenges, crisis and if we do not preserving such strong mentality & mindset, how could we survive then? At the end of the day, this is not the game of who the smartest in the room, this is about survival game, being humble enough to receive feedback, being compassionate to handle disagreement, also open to learn new things. Yes, you spot it right, not all of us stay till the finish line on this program and not everyone got the slot for the final pitching day - may the funding be with you! 😱 I'd like to also take this moment to thank Antler team for the whole program experience, their masterclasses, mentorships, global alumni networks, has given me powerful weapons to prep and shape me into a founder market fit - in such intense timeline. And the best part, you could securing the pre seed funding, if you nailed to convince & influence Antler on how powerful your idea and team are! 😉 Helping your idea fly off the ground, turning your 'what if' into 'what to do next!' They are opening the next cohort now! Take a sneak peak here lnkd.in/g8j562NU and drop me message if you would like to ask anything! Pessimists sound smart. Optimists build. Being a pessimist is a super comfortable place to be since OPPORTUNITY COST is almost impossible to calculate. A pessimist gets to say things like "I've saved the company $100K" by shutting down a million dollar idea. The company will never know if they actually lost a million due to inaction and ROI fetish. Being an optimist is a super anxious place to be as ACTUAL COST can easily be calculated. An optimist might have to say "I just lost the company $100K" if that million dollar idea doesn't work out. The very first investor I pitched Airalo to have literally scolded me telling why this will never work. He sounded very smart with his big words. I almost believed him. And then there is Antler, our first investor. The incubator of optimists🙂 The point of this post all along was to answer a frequent question I always get; Bahadir, should I join Antler to kickstart my entrepreneurial journey? The answer is a very optimistic YES😊 There is a big chance it might change your life🤞

👋 last chance to apply to Antler Indonesia residency! SPUN’s grateful to be a part of the ID5 cohort as Christa Sabathaly & I got to form our founding team here, met fellow founders on similar journey with us, and got connected with great mentors who are helping us lots to really validate our idea & supporting us along the way until today. But the most important value for me personally is the timeboxed approach. The investment is given at the end of the cohort and you have 2-3 months to really test & validate the idea. Sometimes we can get quite “absorbed” with our own ideas at the beginning and thought “yeah this thing is cool, ofc it’ll take off and folks will love it” while not only after you test & validate you’ll learn whether it makes sense or not (most times nah). We started off as a tax startup and now we work on visas, pivoted halfway during the program and learnt a lot from the experience. Feel free to message me if you’re still in doubts whether or not you should take the risk to apply for this cohort.

Today marks the completion of 2 weeks in the Antler program and the experience so far has been profound. It's been a whirlwind of intricate challenges & important wins. I had initially thought that building a business was all about solving a problem for your target audience. However, the program has made me realize that it is much more than that. Over the past two weeks, I have been encouraged to ask myself some tough questions in two areas: 1. Self-reflection: - What does it mean for me to be a startup founder? - Beyond my professional skills, what do I bring to the table as an individual & potential co-founder? - What values do I want my company to embody & why? - Why do I care about solving this particular problem & why am I the best person to solve it? 2. Network (In pursuit of a co-founder) - What does my connection value most- can I help them with their problem? If not, who can I connect them to? - What motivates my peers & does it align with me? - Is my connection in the same headspace as me- what are the things in his/her life that hinder them from performing at their best? is there a way I can help them? Answering these questions is no easy task as there are no right or wrong answers, and they keep evolving. But having a strong network of people who you can talk to has proven to make the process painless & enjoyable. I had the chance to sit down with Samira Gadri & reflect on our first week at Antler. If you are curious about what the journey has been like, give it a watch. Here is a snippet:

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦’𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮 sums up my humbling phase 1 experiences at Antler. It took me 3 cohorts to form 3 co-founding teams and validate 3 business ideas before I received the first '𝘠𝘦𝘴'. People within my close network are mostly conventional business players. Like them, I have always aspired to become an entrepreneur even though being a corporate professional has certainly its own merit. Being risk-averse, I self-doubted my ability to run it solo requiring me to scout for a business partner(s) coming from similar, corporate backgrounds who could work in structure and possessed functional skillset. After 7+ years as a management consultant and start-up professional, I set my foot in an entrepreneurial journey and came across Antler in my early days. I joined ID2, ID3 and ID5 meeting like-minded individuals who ticked my criteria as potential co-founders. The first two failed attempts certainly cost me time and other opportunities, and I was disappointed with some things that could have gone better in my view. But the gains were unmeasurable: 1. NETWORK Every cohort surprised me with the diversity of backgrounds of highly experienced participants. Management consultants, conventional entrepreneurs, startup professionals, hoteliers, headhunters, bankers, medical doctors, data scientists, AI-developers – and the list goes on. 2. VALIDATION KNOW-HOWs Initial market validation is key prior to developing and launching a fully functional product to save unnecessary cost. During my time at Antler, validation involved distributing surveys, gathering interest data points through fake doors testing, rolling out proof-of-concepts, talking to stakeholders, and asking potential users / customers to sign letters of interest. 3. MARKET SIZE Market size is undoubtedly one of, if not the most, important topics in assessing investment feasibility. The challenging exercise actually benefitted me a lot as it helped determine whether to kill an idea fast before more time and effort were put into it. Similarly, I was also able to objectively identify which business idea was VC-backable, conventional or simply worth treated as a passion project. Shout-outs to these individuals who played a key part of my journeys: ▪ Coaches: Markus Bruderer Agung Bezharie Hadinegoro Kanta Nandana ▪ Co-Founders: Boris Lianto Viki Hardian Saputra Michael Purnama Jonathan Ivan Mandagi Farah Savitri Hakim Daniel Kasenda Indra Rukasyah ▪ Other Antler ID folks: Noviyana Halim Jessica Irfan Dama Purusadhikara Ainaya Tama Yenny Yusra Azzahra Salsabiila ▪ All ID2, ID3 and ID5 troops who helped make the programs fun and memorable inside out ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Btw, the next cohort (ID6) is coming up in Feb’24. Find out more at lnkd.in/gSGruyvp and s.id/ID6_Brochure. Happy to personally connect and unbiasedly exchange some thoughts with you about the program, too (both + and -).

2 December 2023 - Today marks a significant milestone for us – our first Anniversary. We joyfully celebrate a year filled with commitment, resilience, and agility. Our journey began with the shared dream of our founders, Debby Reynata and Jeffrey Dharmawan, who envisioned to move the needle in tackling climate change, where businesses could actively contribute to saving our planet and combatting climate change. Our north star has always been to eliminate barriers for companies embarking on their climate journey. The path hasn't always been bathed in sunlight. Over the past year: • Setting up “Home” for TruClimate ✔ • Securing fundraise from Antler ✔ • Establishing company culture ✔ • Building culture-fit TruCrew ✔ • Landing clients, including publicly listed companies ✔ • “Heated-discussion” throughout the years ✔ • Developing new features that we never thought of before ✔ The list go on … The road ahead may not be easier, but as we reflect on our journey, it’s something fulfilled us in the process. Cheers to many more years of growth and acceleration! 🌱 hashtag #TruClimate hashtag #ClimateAction 🌱

We’re into week 8 of our 5th founder residency in Indonesia—so here's a brief reflection on how things have been turning out. This is our most experienced cohort to date, with an average of 13 years of cumulative work experience among our 61 founders. And that has really impacted the overall experience of this residency. Four key observations: 1️⃣ No Solo Founder This is the first cohort where we don’t have a single solo founder, i.e. someone who wants to build a hashtag #startup all by themselves. Instead, our founders have been very eager to work together. One unexpected problem: Some of the teams have gotten too big! Once, we had to break up a group of 4 founders because there was redundant expertise among them. We ended up splitting them into 2 separate teams to work on 2 separate ideas. 2️⃣ Humility There is a lot of humility amongst the founders of this cohort. They’re a lot more open to feedback, despite having held high-ranking and leadership positions in their prior tech companies. That’s a really good thing as it has allowed us to kill (and improve) their ideas in a much shorter time frame, without any emotional outbursts! 3️⃣ Out of Comfort Zone Another surprising thing: Half of our founders are eager to build something outside of their comfort zone. We have a hashtag #founder who previously specialised in logistics and now wants to enter the corporate gifting space. While it may seem like there is no obvious connection between these two categories on the surface, corporate gifting actually requires the establishment of a robust supply chain. Lesson to learn: We all possess a lot of intangible experiences that we can leverage to build in a non-linear way in our next startup, even if it’s in a completely different industry altogether. 4️⃣ Overthinking That said, the more mature we get, the more cautious we are when it comes to taking big risks. I’ve noticed that our more experienced founders are the ones who overthink and want to do more analysis before executing. While this makes sense, the startup world moves fast. At some point, risk is inevitable. * I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into what’s been happening at the residency of Antler in Indonesia. If you're an existing or aspiring founder who's keen to know more, find out more and reach out to us at lnkd.in/gbQsWX7R

WE'VE RAISED $60 MILLION USD SERIES B 🔥 🔥 🔥 Yes! The cat is out of the bag. One might even say that the bag is catless now. Basically, the space within the bag that was once occupied by a cat is now cat-free. A wise man once said; "If you are building the world's biggest telecom company for one billion travelers then make sure you have some of the best telcos join your series B round." And oh boy! what a cap table this has turned out to be 😎 Etisalat's e& capital, Liberty Global, Singtel Innov8, Orange Ventures, Deutsche Telekom's T.Capital, KPN Ventures and Telefónica alongside with Antler, Rakuten, Peak XV Partners and I2BF Global Ventures have just given us $60 million USD so that we can make Airalo even better. Huge thanks to my cofounder Abraham Burak and the whole Airalo team. From day one of sketching Airalo's UI on a paper to millions of downloads today, this still feels surreal sometimes. And what better picture than the cofounders' crossed arms pose can say "we have just raised a new round"?

✨ It's been a great month since I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Antler. ✨ Meeting my co-founders - Indra Rukasyah, Daniel Kasenda, and Armando C. - has been nothing short of inspirational. We're united not just by our shared vision, but also by our pace and passion. As a female founder, their inclusiveness and respect have been empowering. Together, we've dived into brainstorming sessions, lively discussions, and meticulous refining of our business model. The excitement as we approach IC a.k.a the pitch day is palpable, but the true victory for me has been finding these amazing companions to work alongside for years to come. In an environment where female founders can often be undervalued, having the three of them as co-founders is a true blessing. 🙌 Another joy has been connecting with fellow lady bosses - Nafisah Wulandari, Beatrix Immanuel, Christa Sabathaly, Dilla Anindita, and Dietasari O. . Our bond has strengthened remarkably over the past five weeks. Supporting each other, celebrating our small victories, and even sharing vulnerabilities - it's been an empowering experience finding a tribe where we push for excellence yet remain true to ourselves. 💅 💕 Why of course a heartfelt thanks to our mentors - Lorenzo Peracchione, Agung Bezharie Hadinegoro, and Kanta Nandana - for their invaluable support, guidance, and readiness to assist. Your insights and willingness to engage in 1-on-1 sessions have been incredibly helpful. Also, a big shout-out to the entire Antler ID team Dama Purusadhikara Noviyana Halim Jessica Irfan and the whole gang for their relentless efforts in ensuring all our queries are addressed, and our needs met. 🐱 To those aspiring to begin their entrepreneurial journey, I encourage you to join this family. 🌈 So it has been 7 weeks full of embracing growth and grit since I dived headfirst into the entrepreneurship world as an Entrepreneur in Residence with Antler 💡 From ideation to iteration, I feel that each day has been a dynamic challenge and an opportunity to turn dreams into reality and Antler's vibrant ecosystem has been the perfect launchpad for this thrilling adventure. Shout out to our mentors Lorenzo Peracchione Agung Bezharie Hadinegoro Kanta Nandana whom have been elevating our game and giving us valuable wisdom and honest feedback since day 1. Their guidance has exponentially accelerated our growth and I see that through every critique and suggestion, there is a limitless opportunity to refine and improve. 🗒 Here are 3 lessons that have become the compass guiding for me, as a first-time venture builder: 1️⃣ Courage Over Comfort 📈 : I have always been a risk-averse person but I recently learned that stepping into the unknown is where the magic happens. Embrace discomfort and take a lot of risks, and see that you are more resilient than you think you were. 2️⃣ Team is Everything 🤝 : Surrounding myself with talented and passionate people in Antler has been a game-changer. The collective energy and shared vision are our foundations of success, and I am glad to share this with my fellow co-founders whom I met in this cohort Jason Katio and Dwi Susanto. Having co-founders is not only about dividing tasks; it's about multiplying dreams and conquering challenges together. 👊 3️⃣ Fail Fast, Pivot Faster 🔄 : Failure is not the end; it's the birthplace of innovation. Learn fast, pivot faster. These past few weeks, we learned that flexibility and adaptability are not just skills; they're our core survival tools. Try to embrace uncertainty and turn it into your ally. Anticipate change, always be agile, and don't be afraid to pivot your strategy based on feedback and market dynamics. ❤️ I also would like extend my heartfelt shoutout to the incredible Antler ID team Noviyana Halim Jessica Irfan Ainaya Tama Dama Purusadhikara and last but not least, the independent and bad-ass female leaders that deserve to receive a warm shout Farah Savitri Hakim Dilla Anindita Dietasari O. Christa Sabathaly Beatrix Immanuel Jean Kwannandar Thanks for the camaraderie, support, and shared passion for innovation that not only make this journey exciting but truly special 🙌 Seven weeks down, and we believe the adventure has just begun. 7 weeks into Antler’s Startup Founder Program, it's been a valuable learning experience. I joined the program with 3 primary objectives: 1) Understand tech startups and the VC world, 2) Connect with diverse individuals for knowledge exchange, and 3) Commence my tech startup journey. Happy to share that I achieved all 3 and more. The ID5 cohort consisted of 61 selected individuals who were: 💰 55% business & commercial founders ♠ 45% technical founders or domain experts 🧠 44% with advanced degrees 💼 Avg. of 13 years in cumulative work experience The program kicked off with individual introductions in front of the cohort, showcasing diverse backgrounds and impressive expertise. Although initially nerve-racking for me, given others' affiliations with notable tech companies, the open and welcoming atmosphere quickly put me at ease. Everyone was eager to collaborate on building the next big thing. The program is exactly like I had hoped, a guided tour into the startup scene and an insider look on the VC perspective. The Antler team excelled in delivering the program, including giving masterclasses, laying essential foundations for building a startup. Kudos to Agung Bezharie Hadinegoro, Kanta Nandana, Dama Purusadhikara, Ainaya Tama, Noviyana Halim, Jessica Irfan, Yenny Yusra, Azzahra Salsabiila, Mongi Buckens, Felix Frenzel, Lorenzo Peracchione, Markus Bruderer, Winnie Khoo, Rufus Sorsa Then there were the inspiring Founder feature sessions from successful founders, also including some Antler alumni, Gilang Gibranthama, Tedo Esmu Ziraga, Sofian Hadiwijaya, Jacob Vorsø Pedersen, Paco Chan, Gavin🏗️ Tan, Ryan Manafe, Ryan Gondokusumo Not forgetting the insightful VC talks from Ascent Group Irmansyah Putera, Vertex ventures Nisrina Firyal Fadhlannisa sharing their respective views of the market condition, industries that are attractive for them, and what they look out for when investing in startups or founders. The founders participating in the program were encouraged to get to know as many individuals as possible, as the end goal is to find a co-founder, and work together on an idea worthy of an investment from Antler. It was a privilege getting to know so many awesome people, sharing thoughts, ideas and feedback. Following a masterclass insight that highlighted the success of teams with 2 or 3 founders, Benediktus S. and I, decided to join forces and work together on our tech startup. Our focus is on developing accessible problem-solving solutions that benefit a wide audience and drive our venture's growth. Special thanks to our coach, Kanta Nandana, for guiding us in refining our ideas, validating problems, solutions, market size, and strategizing the best approach. This marks the start of my tech startup journey, and I'm eagerly anticipating what lies ahead! If you are interested to start your own entrepreneurial journey, Antler will be starting the ID6 cohort in February 2024. Find out more here: lnkd.in/gjHT9e54

Folks, it's been 7 weeks since I started with Antler's ID5 cohort, and I want to share a few key things I've learned that really changed how I think about starting a business. 1. Get the Right People on the Bus 🚌 Finding the right team is everything. It's not just about skills, but about getting people who share your values and vision. Having trust in each other's strengths and weaknesses is what makes a team solid. It's been awesome working alongside a long-time friend, Christa Sabathaly — couldn't have asked for a better teammate! 2. Normalize the Trough of Sorrow 😵 Starting a business isn't always as glamorous as it sounds. There are tough times of doubt and setbacks. Antler taught us to see these not as failures, but as part of the process. We had moments (many) where our ideas just didn't fly with potential users and had to pivot. Currently, the journey takes us to SPUN, hopefully it will be something useful for you someday. 3. Resilience is Key 🔐 Facing challenges head-on and being able to adapt is crucial. The program showed us that being resilient isn't just enduring tough times, but learning and growing from them. Flexibility and openness to feedback are what keep you moving forward. 4. Have Your Support System 🙌 Going it alone in business can be tough, so having good people around you is priceless. The mentors, peers, and friends I've met have been amazing. Big shout-out to Lorenzo Peracchione, Agung Bezharie Hadinegoro, and Kanta Nandana for their invaluable guidance. Also, a huge thanks to the incredible lady-bosses from ID5 — Christa Sabathaly, Farah Savitri Hakim, Beatrix Immanuel, Nafisah Wulandari, Dietasari O., Jean Kwannandar — you all are amazing. And, of course, a massive thanks to the Antler team, Noviyana Halim, Jessica Irfan, Dama Purusadhikara, and Ainaya Tama for making this all possible. Returning to Indonesia after 4+ years of working abroad for this was a huge step for me, but it's been more rewarding than I could have imagined. The lessons, the connections, the growth – it's been an incredible journey, I don't regret it one bit. ❤️ For anyone considering taking the leap into entrepreneurship, Antler's next cohort applications are now open for February 2024. It's an amazing opportunity to be part of a global community that truly supports and accelerates your entrepreneurial journey. Check it out here for more information: lnkd.in/gD_SQQb8
