I loved this book. It’s full to the brim of great metaphors, learnings, ideas, examples, exercises and possible shifts in perception. The author made me feel that he was in the room with me, talking me through all the possibilities to have me live my dream. There are many examples of how the people who have gone before us pushed through their challenges to reach their success. I particularly liked the more contemporary examples of people’s journey to success. I was convinced that if they can all do, then so can I. It had me thinking outside the box to see how a change in my habits, perceptions or behaviours could make a huge difference to my outcomes. I did not read this book as a creative author, painter or musician, but as a regular person. However, the learnings gleaned can just as easily fit into what my dreams are made of, and as I begin embed to the learnings into my life, I can already see a different ending. I have changed my direction and am now heading for the life I really want to live. Thank you for your insights and help, and for the interesting quotes at the beginning of each chapter. The author supplied me with a copy of this book for review purposes.

When I first looked at this book, I thought, "not another book that is going to say the same thing again". Initially, I was sceptical that it would provide any fresh insight into a subject that has been constantly re-hashed and re-served to the public. As a reader of such books for over thirty years, I have become jaded. I love the idea of making ourselves the best we can be and that this power rests within us. Bryan Collins approaches it with his heart on his sleeve and lays out what he has learned in such a way that you can't help but be touched. His survey of the power of tapping into our creative source is enjoyable and easy to read. I read it in one sitting and found myself, at times, both smiling and cheering at the words he wrote. He is very generous with his resources--citing books, links, and tools necessary to assist in a creative's journey. He also provides exercises for those amongst us who like that sort of thing. This is a personal and heartfelt book by a serious author trying to help others learn from his mistakes--while acknowledging that he continues to struggle with identified challenges. I enjoyed it. I learned from it. I would recommend it. Baron A. Deschauer P.S. I received an advanced copy of this to read. I hope this doesn't prejudice my review in your eyes.

The sub-title tells it all: “Learning How to Build Lasting Habits, Face Your Fears and Change Your Life.” Thought provoking for sure. Fortunately, author Bryan Collins set me an electronic pre-publication copy to review. Now, I’ll be 82 years old, not young, old in a few months, and that’s Okay. Careening towards eternity doesn’t mean one still can’t learn a thing or two. And indeed one should. This carefully written book provided me insights, encouragement and clever practical steps to be taken to explore old dreams, old ambitions. It helps one generate youthful enthusiasm, consider new fields, and reconstruct age-worn habits to take on all the tomorrows that lie ahead with renewed confidence and vigor. Now we are all different; different ages, different health and financial realities. The one thing we have in common is that we all have a future to live. It’s coming whether you want it to or not. Why not prepare for it? This book will help. Dreams, sometimes deeply buried, which we all have should not be allowed to lay fallow. I think this book is a shot in the arm or a kick in the pants, you select which one, to get you on a positive path to achieve your goals -- regardless of your age. (Check back with me in 10 years,) Good book, well-written, chock full of practical suggestions. A great gift for a young person -- nay, for any person – including yourself. NB: Dr. Mellander was a university dean for 15 years and a college president for 20.

The author explains his point with lots of references in every subject covered. I personally find the 'Fear' section very helpful. At the end of the book lots of resources have been provided which not just a writer but any artist in any creative field can use and, partly also, where to look for when stuck. The author is very helpful. He always responds to my emails. The Power of Creativity is a highly motivating book that’s sure to get those often elusive creative juices flowing. It’s filled with plenty of inspiring and practical advice for readers. I particularly liked the author’s suggestion of writing a personal mission statement. Many people think mission statements are just for businesses, but the way the author presents the idea here makes perfect sense. I loved that he shared his own mission statement in the book. This exercise alone is a creative activity that can easily be used as a jumping off point for many other self-discovery themed projects. The Power of Creativity is an engaging pep talk of a book that has already given me some new ideas to increasing my own creativity. I'm already looking forward to Book 2!

The Power of Creativity: Learning How to Build Lasting Habits, Face Your Fears and Change Your Life (The Power of Creativity, #1) by Bryan Collins For artists and writers who are just starting out, this book is priceless. For those who have been there and done that, not that much because they have already experienced the fears and jitters at the onset of an earlier work and hopefully they have learned from the experience alone. Some of the ideas in the book have also been mentioned in other motivational literature. Still, the writing is very good, the encouragement valuable, and the motivational sections that target the finishing of one's work are truly helpful. I enjoyed reading the book and I recommend it to any newbie who hasn't completed a painting or hasn't yet finished the first draft of a written work.

As a new creative life coach, I wanted to learn more about the subject before I am embarking on this new role. As an author, I know much of the struggles he described within the book, but to put that knowledge into a coaching guide is another. This book helped me with a clear direction and focused knowledge. His insight through descriptive writing made it understandable and enjoyable. This is truly a book that reveals the power of creativity in its simplicity and gives wisdom in a world cluttered with information.

I wanted to let you know that I completed the course and... I'm writing! I don't know what clicked inside my head, but something did after watching your videos. One tip you gave that I found extremely helpful was to start small and build my word count.

Also, the analogy of throwing a type writer at the moon really hit home for me. I am, admittedly, a perfectionist, and I had gotten to where I was afraid to write anything, even something as simple as a text message, in fear of making a mistake. I really enjoyed the reference to Hemingway and his method of leaving off in the middle... and the quote about not emptying the well. I also got something out of your method of organizing ideas for future writing, but I don’t have the name of the app you used, because you mentioned it once and it did not appear in the notes.

My own vision and attention issues did contribute, but these small helps (perhaps including large and bold type, would really help me. Other take always for me included moving from the to do list to the actual doing phase, and the action step of creating a bank of 5 to 10 writing prompts or ideas.

I will indeed begin to practice showing up, and allow my projects to progress in small increments. Reframing my work as play will be a bigger challenge, but the idea is appealing, and I’ll give it a go.

 Thanks for your input!

When I started Bryan’s course I had a clear objective, and a very rough concept. I learned to expect messy first drafts, to build a daily writing routine, to outline my writing and to separate my creating from my editing.

I ended up with multiple partial drafts, an idea file, and one ~6000 word rough partial draft I was pretty happy with and felt comfortable sharing for a coaching call.

After the coaching call, I felt encouraged and validated, but I now recognize that my story needs some major changes to the structure and protagonist in order to engage my desired audience.

It’s going to be hard work, but at least now I understand where I need to focus my efforts. I made real, measurable progress because I took Bryan’s course and coaching call.

Not bad for 33 days! Bryan is experienced, knowledgeable, and he cares about helping you become a better writer. This is the best step I could have taken to jump start my writing. Thank you, Bryan!

This book is a really valuable resource for anybody working creatively. The author read a lot of books on creativity and many biographies about great artists, and he extracted the most valuable lessons and put together a compelling guide for struggling artists. At the same time, the book is Bryan Collins' unique take on how to get the best out of your creativity and lead a fulfilling life. I especially enjoyed famous artists' quotes and a look at their lives: McCarthy, Hemingway, Murakami, Mozart, Dali, etc... These parts are also inspiring. The book takes a no-bullshit approach: An artist should strive for balance between inspiration and hard work. It dissects what creativity is made of. Many chapters are encouraging. The author doesn't shy back from describing his own failures with brutal honesty, which makes the book very relatable. Some of these pages are definitely very personal and brave. If you are a creative, you will likely recognize yourself in many parts and go:"Awwww..." Fear holding us back, struggle with everyday life, etc, etc... you feel like Bryan Collins is holding your hand and leads you through this maze.

If someone wants to read a book that will help him or her to kick start writing and which is short and precise than this is the book you want to read.

When I came across this ebook on Amazon, I was searching for more information about creativity.

It got me unstuck, and I’m now set up with Scrivener, an outline, and a plan. I’m well into my first draft, and morivated to write every day.

Now, I understand that I don't have to write the "perfect sentence because the truth is that it will never be perfect.
