Is it safe to be your authentic self at work?
On my writing journey, I was determined to find Latina women who transcended the deep-seated ancestral and cultural fear that often prevents many in our community from showing up authentically, as who we truly are.
This fear of showing up authentically can cause us to hold back our potential, depriving ourselves of the chance to become the best versions of ourselves (because too much energy can go into trying to hide or change who we are), and even more significantly, we can deprive our country and society of the very valuable contributions we have to offer!
Monica Marquez, a courageous leader I deeply admire, fully embraced her authentic self and redirected her energy from trying to change or hide her greatness, to leveraging it to create large-scale impact supporting the growth of other women through her company, Beyond Barriers.

#LWTSummit conference in New York City!
This event was an amazing opportunity to dive deep into some of the most relevant trends in business, technology, and culture, with thought leaders from across industries sharing invaluable insights. 🚀 From transformative conversations on the future of tech, to exploring how we can build more inclusive workplaces, I walked away energized and inspired.
I was also thrilled to be a part of the SQUAD Leadership Program, which provided a fantastic opportunity to build leadership skills alongside a very impressive ~120-person cohort. The experience deepened my understanding of what it means to lead with impact and authenticity.
But what truly made this experience remarkable was the community — connecting with brilliant, passionate individuals who are driving innovation and change. It reminded me of the power of collaboration, support, and lifting each other up. 💡✨
Grateful for the knowledge gained, and looking forward to bringing these learnings back to my team at Stanford GSB Executive Education. Let’s continue pushing boundaries and building the future together! 💪🏳️🌈

This program has been an incredible experience, designed to empower women to go further, faster. I made the decision to invest in myself to keep progressing while between development programs at work, and I’m so glad I did. After learning about the vision of the founders and listening to their podcast, I knew Beyond Barriers was the right path for me. We have learned the importance of finding our strengths, leveraging our unique talents, and advocating for ourselves in the workplace.
But perhaps even more importantly, we have discovered the power of support and community. Throughout this program, we have formed bonds — connections built on mutual respect, trust, and shared experiences. We have leaned on each other for guidance, encouragement, and inspiration, and in doing so, we have created a solidarity that extends the boundaries of Beyond Barriers.
Let us remember the importance of confidence, resilience, and authenticity in everything we do. But above all, let us never forget the incredible potential that lies within each and every one of us. We are capable of achieving greatness beyond our wildest dreams, and together, we can shatter glass ceilings, defy expectations, and change the world. The world awaits, and I have no doubt that we will conquer it together.

Achievement is so bloody overrated.
Well..okay...maybe not overrated, but hear me out.
In yesterday's community call, Nikki Barua, Beyond Barriers' Founder & CEO, said, "Achievement by itself is a poor metric of success. Real success is when you have both achievement and fulfillment."
Nikki nailed it. Accomplishments alone have rarely made me feel successful.
Competing with others never made me feel successful or powerful either.
What has made me feel successful and empowered, however, is the process of achieving something that is aligned with my aspirations and core values, and that creates value for others.
This is the sweet spot where achievement and fulfillment meet for me.
This is the space where my creativity, imagination, innovation, and inspiration flow.
Thanks for this reminder, Nikki.

In yesterday's community call, Nikki Barua, Beyond Barriers' Founder & CEO, said, "Achievement by itself is a poor metric of success. Real success is when you have both achievement and fulfillment."
Nikki nailed it. Accomplishments alone have rarely made me feel successful.
Competing with others never made me feel successful or powerful either.
What has made me feel successful and empowered, however, is the process of achieving something that is aligned with my aspirations and core values, and that creates value for others.
This is the sweet spot where achievement and fulfillment meet for me.
This is the space where my creativity, imagination, innovation, and inspiration flow.
Thanks for this reminder, Nikki.

This is the single most important thing I learned from Beyond Barriers. When I started my sales career 30+ years ago in a male dominated environment - personal life was not discussed - it was a sign of weakness. Becoming a high earning working mother was frowned upon in both the workplace and among other mothers in the kindergarten class especially when I would be running in as the performance started in a suit and heels. Knowing yourself worth, and that you can have it all is empowering. Own who you are and be proud of it. Do not dim your light to fit in ..
