This course helped me reconnect with my passion for child life and gave me the clarity and encouragement I needed to reimagine what my next chapter could look like. After years in hospital settings and then stepping away to care for my family, I’d been unsure how to bring child life into this new season. The course reminded me that there are many ways to practice child life - and that as long as I stay grounded in the heart of the field, I can create something meaningful, purposeful, and unique to reach even more kids and families.
had previously started an LLC and began working with a mentor to build a child life business, but without a child life background, my mentor’s approach didn’t quite align with the values and purpose that drew me to this work in the first place. I eventually dissolved the business, but the dream never left me. What I needed was guidance from someone who understood both the heart of child life and the practical steps of business-building. This course gave me both.
Katie and the other instructors were incredibly generous in sharing their paths, resources, and insights. Katie’s leadership and openness created a true sense of community, reminding me that we’re not in competition - we’re in this together to support children and families through life’s hardest moments.

The How to Build a Business in Child Life Course from Child Life Circle has opened up my mind so much as to what private practice can include. I facilitate group supervision and supervise staff in my current job. One of my main takeaways so far has been maybe you can have it all (or some of all of it?). I never thought of supervising or facilitating through private practice and am super excited about the concept of offering supervision in addition to patient sessions. I feel so much more motivated to jump into the child life business field.

Taking this course gave me just the ‘push’ I needed towards achieving my goal of private practice. Although nervous, these qualified Child Life Specialists in private practice not only offered a friendly and relatable platform, their positive, experienced and connective teaching methods provided just what I needed to bravely move toward my next steps. Learning where to start and how to start was difficult for me to understand, so I appreciate the transparency of information, the reality of what to do, what to expect and how to meet the unknown that will surely come. I’m no longer hesitant. I’m excited! For anyone wondering if this course is worth the time and money, I offer a big YES!

Building a Business has been a great course. I don't know what the future holds so I thought it would be a good idea to get some basic information on how and why child life specialists have started private practices. I absolutely LOVE being a child life specialist and can't imagine doing anything else as a career. It's nice to know that this is a possibility in the future and that child life has succeeded in the community outside of the hospital settings. Thank you to those that have paved the way and thank you to Child Life On Call for hosting this safe space to share.

This course has been so helpful to thinking about how the CCLS skill set can be integrated into the community setting in so many different ways, I am walking away with concrete, actionable, ideas and am so grateful for this opportunity.
