A Time-Saving Tool for Stormwater and Drainage Analysis
I really like how the program makes it easy to delineate sub-basins and automatically calculate their areas. When performing SWPPP analyses in CAD, this step can be very time-consuming, so it’s helpful to have a tool that streamlines the process and saves a significant amount of time. I also appreciate that the software automatically computes flow paths for determining time of concentration. This is another task that can take a considerable amount of time when done manually in CAD. Additionally, when calculating time of concentration values, the program allows you to base them on the site’s hydrologic soil properties, which is very useful. I also like that it provides a detailed breakdown of how the TC values are computed, making the process transparent and easy to follow.

GeoSTORM combines an easy-to-use interface with the ability to use and process LIDAR. Implementation is easy, whether starting a new project from scratch or importing an existing one. Integration with AutoCAD is a simple matter or importing or exporting pipe networks. My favorite features are the undo button and scenarios. I also like the ability to test out pipe/node edits from within the profile view before you decide whether to keep them.
So far, I have used GeoSTORM successfully for several complex storm system modification projects over the last few months. I look forward to completing many more projects with this program in the future.

Some of the output options for intermediate calculations are buried within windows and can be difficult to find (such as impervious area when using NLCD data). I’ve been using GeoHECHMS and GeoHECRAS to model different design scenarios and generate water surface profiles, especially for grading plans, ditch design, and pond sizing. The visual outputs make it much easier to understand what’s actually happening instead of just trusting numbers.
I like how easily it works with CAD files and how straightforward it is to pull in public data when site information is missing. Being able to clearly define variables and then get clean, summarized outputs has made it easier for me to check assumptions and follow the logic all the way through to final design and reporting.
Definitely a solid tool if you’re still learning and want something that helps connect the modeling to real design decisions. The team is also available at any time to guide you through the software by phone.

GeoHECRAS is very user friendly. Their customer service is top notch as well. As with any program there are a few bugs that need to be addressed from time to time but they are quick to help you work through them. We use GeoHECRAS to assist in all of our bridge hydraulics and flood studies. We also use it to merge lidar data with other survey data.

GeoHECHMS provides all of the external resources that could be necessary for a complete hydrologic analysis. The original Army Corps of Engineers HEC-HMS software always seemed like an "old" software regarding its interface and features. GeoHECHMS upgrades it to a modern software.
What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?
I have not used the software enough to discover its downsides. Compared to regular HEC-HMS, GeoHECHMS is an upgrade, and I haven't used any other software like it to compare it against.

GeoHECHMS has taken our typical Hydrological Drainage Studies and amplified the speed with which we can complete them. The User Interface makes it quick and easy to work with and is extremely intuitive towards new employees learning the program. We are able to implement it quickly and easily into the majority of our work. My favorite part of the program is the ease of delineating large scale watershed subbasins that can be refined to smaller acreage if you are looking for a more detailed study of larger scale watersheds.

My experience has been great using GeoHECRAS for the projects I've been working on.
The most helpful is that you can extract the survey data points into your cross section, unlike having to use a raster in the past. It is a good alternative from HEC-GeoRAS (GIS).

This allows us to insert Hydraulics and Water Quality earlier on in the conversations and more efficiently allocate areas for stormwater treatment and storage. The software was easily integrated into our projects and implementation throughout the company was fairly simple.

I have taken at least four courses on PCSWMM, and yet I still find it difficult to tackle some workflows. Geostorm is like working with a LEGO model, although I must agree with one previous reviewer that adding catch basins to the pipe instead of a model is quite awkward. That is a SWMM flaw, not a GEOSTORM flaw. Some other wrappers have worked around that, and with good reason. I believe that CivilGEO would like to cover all EPASWMM bases before tweaking the actual model, and that is completely understandable. You have to walk before you run, but my first work with GEOStorm was a gigantic solar farm that covered an entire town, draining to a river that was also modeled in GEOStorm. I tried Autodesk's Infoworks, and I don't understand why a flood model needs to look like a relational database.
GEOStorm will be your best bet if results are what you are after. The problem with most of these other programs is that they fail to prioritize the user experience. If you need to gather rainfall, streamflow, terrain, land cover, and soil data before laying out your model, you are already a couple of days behind, and most importantly, you will be tired before you start modeling. See, I look forward to working with CivilGeo's tools. It is that engaging, and that in itself is a battle won. The most difficult part of any project is getting started, and CivilGEO's products invite you to do just that. When was the last time you were eager to work? You have to experience it, because you have three options;
1 - Work slowly
2- Have a battery of Python scripts that can pull all that data for you. (Good luck maintaining that library for a few users.)
3-Use Geostorm
