As Principal Reservoir Engineer in PETRONAS, I’m pleased to share our experience working with CMG’s simulation software and technical support during the Megah subsurface evaluation and development studies. The support from CMG team was exceptional, especially Nader Ghadami. The Megah project involved a technically challenging carbonate reservoir system, requiring close integration of well test interpretation, pressure transient analysis, and dynamic single well modelling to understand reservoir connectivity, tested volume distribution, and production sustainability. CMG’s simulation tools played a key role in supporting these evaluations by enabling robust numerical modelling and sensitivity analysis aligned with the geological and pressure data available from the well. That enabled our team to successfully upgrade the single well model to full field. Throughout the study, CMG provided reliable technical support and responsive engagement, supporting the modelling workflow from early concept screening through to structured technical reviews and internal decision forums. Their team demonstrated a strong understanding of carbonate reservoir behaviour, well test dynamics, and model based uncertainty evaluation, while maintaining a collaborative and professional working relationship with our subsurface team. The use of CMG’s tools and technical input contributed meaningfully to our ability to interpret Megah test results, assess reservoir connectivity, and evaluate development relevant scenarios in a technically consistent and auditable manner. Based on our experience, we are pleased to recommend CMG to teams undertaking complex subsurface and dynamic modelling studies, and we look forward to continued collaboration as our projects progress.

My graduate students and I selected the CMG GEM reservoir simulator to model and predict CO₂ mineralization in mafic and ultramafic formations for permanent carbon storage in the subsurface. With over twenty years of experience using CMG's cutting-edge reservoir simulators, we highly value CMG-GEM’s accuracy, technical robustness, continuous R&D advancements, and strong user support. CMG has generously supported this work by providing both server-based and standalone academic licenses, enabling the efficient execution of numerous complex simulation scenarios. This capability has been essential for evaluating the effects of temperature, pressure, porosity, permeability, mineralogy, geochemical reactions, geomechanical factors, and injection strategies on CO₂ mineralization. Simulations performed using CMG GEM form the analytical foundation of ongoing graduate theses (M.S. and Ph.D.). The resulting datasets are also being used to develop machine-learning-based proxy models for computationally efficient reactive flow analysis under uncertainty. CMG’s comprehensive technical documentation and responsive support have been instrumental in model setup, calibration, and interpretation.
