A seller I connected with here is having his comp messed with by a new CFO, reassigning accounts so commission isn't paid out, retroactive comp plan changes to terms/achievement, 90% attainment cliff before any commissions are paid, etc. Another I know of had the "windfall" or "bluebird" clause in his comp plan pulled three times at one company. Following Dan Goodman here has opened my eyes and ears - hearing more about stories like these. My take is as the number of salespeople increase - specifically this trend in software sales as the number of software salespeople has exploded - the worse the comp will be and the more "tricks" like above will be used to improve margins at struggling companies. But what's your take? Especially those that have been in sales 10+ years, are you seeing a trend?

I stood up for myself and ethics and wouldnt compromise my integrity. I wish I'd seen your posts back then so I knew I wasn't alone, because often going to friends wouldn't be helpful. Since I've been through some things, I know how valuable your posts are and really appreciate it what you're doing for everyone by posting. Wish you all the success in the world and more! Thanks" Several months after sending this, I was faced with a severance offer to leave my position. I knew Dan's value having been through some issues before where I needed counsel. I reached out to Dan to get some advice and confirmation I was taking the right steps, along with good advice that kept me from hiring a lawyer. I'd highly recommend hiring Dan for a consultation before attempting to hire legal counsel. He has a lot of wisdom and can help you navigate whatever situation you are in. If you do need legal counsel, he'll recommend it but chances are you won't need it.

This isn't too different from what many companies do to their employees but it has much less fanfare.
