How I used to run demos as an AE in my first year: 1. Do 5-mins of research on prospect before a call 2. All discovery up front (interview style) without understanding their evaluation critiera or what the prospect personally cares about 3. Messy demo instance (data), multiple tabs open, bookmark bar showing 4. Feature dump and give same generic demo to all prospects 5. Rush to book next steps at the end of the call  6. Spend a ton of time following up on "deals" that were not a good fit How I run demos now: 1. Block 30-mins of time before a call to do research -LinkedIn Profile: anything I can use to build rapport up front that isn’t the weather? -Company Career Page: what roles are they hiring and what do descriptions go into? (Insights into company strategy) -Technographic data - what solutions are they using that we integrate with? -Google: “{COMPANY} + CEO” Blogs/Articles/Talks to see what CEO is focusing on -Glassdoor Reviews: Any information about compensation from employees? 2. Discovery is done naturally throughout the call 3. Look Professional: Clean demo instance, no extra tabs, no bookmarks showing 4. Each demo is customized: -Only demo functionality/features they care about -Discuss problem, walkthrough feature than provide value of the feature tied to metrics they care about. Provide a customer story of how it had impacted somebody similar to them 5. Upfront contract set with expectations that if we meet/exceed their evaluation criteria, leave 5 mins at the end to discuss proposed next steps 6. Ruthlessly trying to disqualify and understanding that 20% of deals are going to bring 80% of the results Been learning a ton from Mor Assouline's demo to close program. There is no comparison to spamming your sales reps with free content online versus bringing in a professional coach like Mor. It's simply not comparable! Mor worked with us during the launch of our software product to match our service. Our team was well-versed in pitching and closing a service versus showing a technical software product. Big difference. Mor leaned down our demo and gave us coaching feedback that was specific to the demo we each hosted. Specificity is key, and why Mor is so effective. I left with a sense of confidence to run a technical demo while keeping things simple and repeatable. No more second-guessing. Follow the steps, rinse and repeat. My biggest regret about leaving my last role was no longer having Mor as a coach.

I've never asked about prospect's FUDs (fears, uncertainties and doubts) after the demo. I can tell that I am missing out completely on addressing the biggest obstacles in my deals. Usually in my discovery/demo I am pretty good at getting pains, processes and desired outcomes, but when it comes to obstacles that may prevent a prospect from buying, I might as well be blind. Funny thing, its so easy to solve with a simple question after the demo has ended and you have agreed that you are a fit. "It seems like we are moving in the right direction, if you decided to move forward with our solution, what would be your main concerns?" All the credit to Mor Assouline and his FDTC course for making me aware of this. I am really looking forward to ask this on my next call! #sales #salesenablement
