This course is by far the best investment I’ve made in my guitar journey. After 1.5 years of playing songs learned from tabs, I finally decided to develop my own style. I spent countless hours watching music theory videos, but I struggled to apply the concepts to my playing. I felt completely lost, unsure of how to connect theory with practice. That all changed with this course. It not only covers fundamental concepts like scale shapes and positions but also does a phenomenal job of helping you truly understand them and turn theory into music. One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning how to create a structured "roadmap" for my practice, giving me a clear sense of direction on what steps to take to improve. This course is packed with value for both beginners and advanced players—there’s so much to learn at every level. Highly recommend!

While learning guitar, my dream was always to be able to play rich solos that sound pleasing to the ear, and this course opened the door to that for me. The theoretical resources I had found before contained mostly general information, were specific to areas like piano or orchestra, or consisted of small fragments. This course, however, is a guide that takes you directly to the goal for solo guitar, using shortcuts on the guitar fretboard. I understood how music is formed on the guitar and how it can be enriched in a solo context. The theoretical knowledge I already had allowed me to move quickly through the basic sections, but I realized that I needed to practice a lot in the later sections. Before, I was trying to improvise by practicing certain techniques without knowing what I should work on or which path to follow. Now I understand the situation, I know what I need to practice and what the goal is. Thank you very much, Roy.

If you’re someone that finds the Fret board confusing, you need to try this course! Roy‘s patterns take your away from the traditional box positions and move laterally up and down the entire neck.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years, always had a grasp on modes, but figured a deeper dive / refresher wouldn't hurt. With that, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this course. I knew all the modes, shapes, etc. prior, but this course actually helped connect the dots in a practical way. I had so many 'aha' moments that took something I previously knew and turned it into something usable. It's a technical course - lot's of theory involved - but Roy does an excellent job of making tough concepts make sense. I'm excited to explore further courses in the future!

This course is everything you need to understand and map the neck out. This has always been a pending topic for me. There are several ways to understand the neck and for me this is the best one. I am still processing everything and its starting to click, but it goes without saying, a lot of practice is needed. I can say that the course is very concise and well structured and the routines and exercises are perfect. I do think the structure is the best thing about this course. I am still at 80% of the course, but this it gives you the tools to fully understand the fretboard. The 'only' thing you need is to practice a lot and be willing to put in the work. Worth every penny.

Missing pieces are coming together. I had some knowledge of scales and how they were connected but didn't know the basic fundamental elements of how, when and where to use them. I also did not know how to apply them over chords. I am beginning to get it.

1. I'd say to go for it as it will definitely broaden up the understanding of how to actually use the modes. 2. My challenge was that I did not put enough time into them myself, since I'm mostly self-taught. But, this has helped me greatly in improving my phrasing. Everything else is left to practice, practice and practice. 3. & 4. I enjoyed it to be honest, the difference between this course and a lot of YT videos on this subject is that you start with a bit of theory, just so one can get to know what's about to come, whilst most (at least the ones I clicked on) YT courses start either with too much theory and general talk about the subject, whilst other start with the modes with vague explanations.

1) I would say : "If you never understood the modes or if you're stck with theory, here's the solution !" 2) I didnt't understand the real difference between modes and scales and i was unable to know exactly the shapes of the modes...And i was unable to use modes on chord progression. It popularizes without sacrifying the reality of the harmony knowledge. 3) I like especially the quality of the videos with clear explanations, very educationnal, The "teacher", "master" teaches with patience and passion. 3) It is so more affordable and efficient than other courses... Thanks a lot for all that !

Hi Roy, I just wanted to thank you for this amazing course! I have been playing for almost 6 years and I have always struggled with the modes and never could understand them. I have praticed the scales before but I was always looking at it from the pentatonic shapes and then the confusion began. I even had guitar teachers that went to music school that could not get me to understand it. The way you teach and set up the course really put a smile on my face and even tho practising the modes can be repetitive, the way you set up this course made it easy and fun to learn. I would definitly recommend this course to people because you are an awesome teacher. Keep up the great work bro, I will definitly be watching ;)

I have played modes for years and found it frustrating on how bland my attempts at creativity were when I attempted to play them. it was difficult for me to not sound like a scale when I played. This course not only sharpened my understanding but gave me new ideas to practice and overall allowed me to view the scales in a different way. Looking forward to more lessons by Roy. He was a great and informative instructor.

This is hands down the best course of learning modes and how they work. Before the course, I knew all the modes. In fact, I had learned them using the same way it's shown in the course, but there's a part of the course that makes them all make sense, and what I had never understood and I've been playing since the mid 80's. I couldn't understand why things sounded a certain way and now I know why. The exercises in this course will definitely get you familiar with the modes. Even though I had already knew the patterns, I didn't know them inside and out like I thought. This course has gotten rid of over 40 years of frustration I had. Thanks, Roy!

Theory can sometimes seem overwhelming. In this case, Roy makes it interesting from start to finish and simple to understand and follow. I can honestly say I know the modes now, which I didn't before. At all. To get the most out of this course, I truly made sure I had assimilated every mode along the way, before getting to the next step. That, to me, was CRUCIAL. Roy could explain everything to someone, but without practicing a lot and assimilating one mode at a time, that someone could be missing out. If you DO follow his program, the way it's meant to be followed and with patience, the AMAZING results will be there. You will be able to map your fretboard and will understand how to make each mode "come out" (in the right circumstances). One thing I would have liked, though, is a chart mapping the triads for each mode (Advanced concepts - Triads within the modes). I had to draw them myself - which I did not mind doing it - but being new to this, one could make mistakes. I still give this course 5 stars with my eyes closed. Thanks Roy, incredibly relevant and rewarding!

Definitely the best course I've taken. Crystal clear, complex theory explained simply, videos are great, and examples for individual lessons are phenomenal. In a month, I have greatly improved my knowledge and playing. Of course, there is still a lot to practice, but this course is for me the best investment in improving my playing technique and understanding of guitar playing. Now I'm continuing with all the other lessons from Roy. Thank you very much. Marin Vuković Greetings from Croatia :)

1. I'd say that the course is definately worth it! 2. Although i play guitar for a long time, I've never gone to a music school so my knowledge about modes/theory was very limited! Until now! 3. I like the fact that i can finally understand how modes actually work and how to map the neck easily in order to have more freedom throughout the neck and to make my solos sound like music and not like exercise! 4. As i progress through the lesson i realize that GMN is a very valuable tool for me in order to elevate my soloing to the next level!

Roy takes the mystery of modes and lays it out in a manner that is easily understood. Often as his lessons is in progress, a question would come to my head and almost always, Roy would have an explanation for it. This comes from his depth of experience working with students at all levels. Do take note that this course helps you to read the map of modes and sheds light on some well tested pathways. It helps you take a confident step into a whole new world, that you can now navigate sensibly. It is not meant to be an exhaustive dictionary of all that is possible with magic of modes. Hands down the best guitar course I've paid for in my 30+ years of playing. Enjoy the transformation!

Roy's Guitar Modes Navigator is likely the best course you will ever take online to understanding and mastering the guitar fret board. I knew and understood the fret board prior, using the CAGED system, however I was not able to thoroughly understand how every thing linked up and down the guitar fretboard horizontally and vertically. The modes were a distant concept that I did not quite understand until I took Roy's course. This is a breakthrough course for me. Now it will become a whole lot easier for me. My challenge now is getting my fingers too move faster. now that I understand the route to follow. Thanks a whole bunch Roy Cheers, Bob

The three notes per string pattern to learn the shapes of all 7 modes instantly makes me able to memorise all of them in extremely short period of time. It is like a magic. I wish I should have discovered Roy's course earlier. It really makes every mode to be the parent mode itself. It suddenly adds five more ways to play through the neck for people like me who relied on the major and minor scales. If every guitar learner chooses to study this course as their first course, they can save a lot of time. Right to the point. Apart from the three notes per string pattern, the other fundamental concept introduced in this course, i would say, should be the "context" and "anchor" concept between each mode and their parent chords. It opens up the door to make chord progression for each mode and hence unlock higher degree of freedom to play with the guitar.

Hey Roy, thanks….what an amazing journey it’s been going through this course…I used to play when I was in college and for a couple of years after that but then the corporate world, family etc. took over all my time…. Am retired now and have enough time so decided to get back to things I love doing. This course has really helped me learn to navigate the fretboard much better….the three note per string was the game changer for me and yes, need to practice more to get it smooth and flowing …your teaching style is simple and easy to follow and would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in understanding the modes and the fretboard. This course has also helped me get out of a place where I was stuck for a long time. The reason I decided on your course is because I was impressed with your style of playing which is so melodic and beautiful to listen to…I loved this course and your methodology so I have picked up your course on Hexatonic as well …. Thanks again Roy..

I have been playing guitar since 2007 and am self taught. Most of what I learned was from a few books and DVDs and I stopped progressing in 2009ish. I am unable to picture things in my mind, and I have always had to think about where I am on the fretboard and thought in musical keys which is easy on one string, but I have always found it challenging across all six. This system not only did a stellar job at explaining the theory behind modes in an easy and accesible way, but now I have learned a system that finally helps me navigate the fretboard easier (CAGED never made sense, but now I feel like I can use this framework to help me understand those concepts as well) I may not be able to “visualize” the fretboard, but I am now learning to use the formulas provided to move more freely up and down the neck. I enjoyed the explanations and easy to follow practice sheets. Having a video example may not seem like a big deal, but greatly helped me follow along (especially on the string skip exercises!). Thank you for an amazing course!

Understanding the Modes the way Roy presents them, makes it easy to apply in theory and on guitar. I had a hard time finding chord tones with the Caged system. No knock on the Caged system, but the 3 notes per string scales makes locating chord tones easy and they all are named 1 thru 7. You can start anywhere on any note and your ear will pick up the parent scale naturally. I really like the licks and in depth examples Roy provides. This course will keep you motivated because of its sound organizational structure. The best course on Modes and general guitar knowledge I've ever taken. Roy, and his students are not wasting their time!!!

Super comprehensive overview over scales and modes, very structured. Roy explains very well with a very positive mindset. Instead of learning parts and pieces here and there, you get a full step-by-step approach, easy to understand. You don't only learn the scales as such, you will understand when and how to use them! Context matters! Once you followed the instructions, you will understand that the journey actually starts now... after understanding how to apply using scales vertically and horizontally, mixing with triads and appregios, and finally with chromatic lines. The combinations and therefore the usage has (almost) no limits!

Hey Roy! (French below for your French potentials students) Well first of all, wow! I really love this course. First reason is pretty simple, I think that's a must have. Guitar theory as an awful reputation and even if I want to know. Most of the courses did not push me. The order, the exercices, .. counter productive.. This one on the other hand! What I needed! From the diagonal shape to the play along, keeps me engaged. If someone feels stuck in shapes, this is the course for you. It will start "basic", but that's a wonderful structure to keep building on. --- Pour tout ceux qui considère apprendre la guitare, je conseille tellement ce cours. J'ai suivi plusieurs cours en ligne et l'engagement des autres n'est pas à ce niveau. Des exercices de taille réaliste, une évolution constante, ... Thanks Roy!

I highly recommend Guitar Modes Navigator. Roy breaks everything down in a clear and digestible way, teaching not just the scales but also the chord tones. After 21 years of playing, I was feeling stuck, but this course gave me a fresh perspective on my practice. Now, I start by running through each scale several times before playing songs. I also think more about the key of a song and the scales I can use over it. As a result, I'm finding it much easier to pick out melodies than ever before.

This is completely bananas, I mean... it is so simple to understand. I thought that improvisation was impossible to me and look where I am at after 2 days of doing the exercises... I already know how to move from one part to the other of the fret board - in any tone. This system is absolutely incredible, and it does not cut corners anywhere. It is just a better way of explaining how scales and improvisation works. I absolutely recommend this course to any student. You can absolutely understand and visualize the entire fretboard in a couple of days in. Imagine 5 years of simple practices (you dont need 8hrs a day with this).

The course is very detailed and I was able to grasp the theory. I did go over some of the lessons again just to be sure I understood the concept. I know exactly how to use them now and makes more sense than any other course or lesson someone has tried to explain. Plenty of examples for each mode and how to use them all helped tremendously. I can actually see other guitar players using the modes in their playing.

This was a game changer for me! I have been a hobby guitar player for four decades and always struggled to get beyond the "pentatonic-box" often encountering songs/chord progressions where I just "couldn't make it fit". I had been following Roy on YouTube for a while and when his course "Modes Navigator" was opened, I decided to take the leap - and put in the effort (it does require that!). The fretboard has truly opened up to me and been linked comfortably to the old-pentatonic-ways - there is no un-learning just valuable additions. Modes is a must! Roy's way of explaining everything is amazing - curiously without even really mentioning intervals (you don't actually need much music theory to follow along). And the continuous access to the website is golden - I did re-watch some of the videos a few times! Dear Roy - thanks for breathing new life into my playing making my guitars more than just pretty things hanging on the walls. This was the first of your courses I have tried, but I'm pretty sure it's not the last ;)

1. Stop considering, and just do it. 2. I took lessons from a Jazz teacher just before YouTube became a thing. The 3 notes on every string approach is much better, and Roy is very easy to follow. 3. You can’t do a better job organizing a course. I love the arpeggio, and string skipping exercises against a backing track. It’s seriously so much fun. Better than just memorizing dot charts. 4. The course has been so fun. In my opinion, it’s the best by far. Roy is very effective in presenting information and extremely easy to understand. You will not struggle to comprehend at all, and if you are new to modes, shut everything else off, bypass everything else, and take the course. It’s a guaranteed win.

It is really great for someone that doesn't understand the modes in relation to chords. Easy explanations and great examples helped me understand it much better. I have not found any other methods or books that can explain it. My challenge was understanding that you are in a A dorian mode even though you use the patterns of the other modes and making sure you hit the A in those modes to make it sound like A dorian.

If you are worried about the cost fear not, this is worth every penny. Seen an ad on FB and was impressed. I have always been looking for the key to playing effertless leads besides just technique. The connection of chords and how to solo over them. This course has taught me enough to be comfortable in just about 3 weeks. I was simply blown away. I thought you just had to be gifted or have a good ear to just know what to play. This class taught me the missing links that I have tried to figure out for years on my own, 15 years actually. Worth every penny if your trying to save time and have it make sense already. Plus Roy plays along with you during the excersises to make it alot less boring too, it helps quite a but. Buy it now and get started!!

I definitely recommend it! Roy teaches in a very clear, down to earth and straight forward way. I love the comprenhensive structure of the course and how every new theoretical concept is linked to a practice that helps to anchor the new information. I feel that my playing and improvisation skills improved dramatically in just one week practicing "the modes navegator" every day. I think my favorite part was the follow along exercises, playing with Roy makes nicer and less boring the daily practices. I would love to have a next level course where we can practice integrating this info with penta, triads, arpegios and other resources in a practical way, with follow along exercises, and more useful tips! This was my first course with Roy, but definitely i will be taking the rest of the courses offered here

This course really helps in so many ways - to understand the theory, mapping out the neck, and many other great concepts. Very in depth, but boiled down in a way that is understandable, with a lot of practice lessons throughout so you can apply what you learn. My advice if you take the course - don’t rush through it. Take your time to really learn all of the concepts and put in the time to practice the concepts regularly. Thanks for the lessons Roy!

This is not the first class that I take from Royziv (I started with Guitar speed builder) and what I like is the straight to the point approach. No BS, just the right information that we need and a practice plan all along that to make it through and become a better guitar player. Thanks RoyZiv you rock !

Roy i love this course! It’s done exactly as you said and has unlocked the fretboard for me unlike anything I’ve tried before. I was locked into pentatonic land which is ok but I wanted to expand on that so I signed up for your hexatonic course on the advice of a guitar playing friend. That course made my playing much more melodic just by learning an extra note! Now by learning modes my playing is that much more melodic and seamless! I love it and can’t wait to play live with my three piece band to put it into practice I also purchased your speed course and it’s a challenge to become faster but everything takes time and practice thank you for all your knowledge and advice it has made me a better player ! I have taken formal lessons in the past but the teacher seem to jump around with a bit of modes and theory I like the way you teach in a step by step method and allow us to play along with you! Thank you so much I look forward to more of your teachings!

Wow, this is a fantastic course, probably the only one on guitar modes that you'll ever need. Roy teaches comprehensive understanding with exercises to build experience and mastery of the topic which has historically been stressful, confusing, and hard to understand and apply for many. His method is easy to understand, and more importantly, he shows you how to practice and apply modes to the guitar immediately. I was looking for a way to help me understand how to use modes and the way Roy teaches dramatically shortened the learning curve. There's no going back to confusion and frustration after taking this course. You can't unlearn this stuff once he connects the dots. If you learn and apply what he teaches, you'll sound like you know what you are doing because you will see what you are doing. This course reduced the stress of trying to "figure it out", boosted my confidence, and made playing guitar much more fun!

This course is perfect for an advanced player who didn't go to Berklee and kinda skipped over theory in favor of just memorizing things and making the guitar work. The reason it is a "buy" is because Roy Ziv is ORGANIZED and the course is methodical which is to always the case with these sort of offerings. I've purchased all of his courses and I come back to them with a deeper understanding with each review. The course is excellent value and you end up with a very solid grasp of all the modes and along the way you will improve your technique. Do it in order, don't skip then challenge Roy to a guitar battle.

I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone who is struggling to learn how to use the modes on guitar. Hands down it's the best content I've found online and explains everything in the easiest way possible. There's no confusing jargon and the focus on chord tones and the chords being played behind the modes is such an eye opener. It's also tons of fun to work through and Roy's way of teaching really makes this course an absolute must have. 10/10 👍

Information is fantastic! The order is logical, messages are to the point, this can save a lot of players many many hours of frustration.

This course will make a huge difference on how you visualize and connect the fretboard right away. A very practical approach on how to understand and exploit each modal sound, but at the same time it will simply improve how you play guitar in many other ways.

Layering chord tone arpeggios over 3NPS scale patters is an instant eye opener. Can't thank you enough Roy!

Roy has demystified what modes are and how to use them. In his course, 'GUITAR MODES NAVIGATOR,' Roy takes you on a step by step journey that tears down the veil of modal confusion. With a supportive and easygoing approach, Roy provided over 119 easy to understand videos that breaks down and explains each mode. How they are easily identified, and what chord progressions work with each modal concept. In addition, through a series of guitar licks, mp3 backing tracks, scale sequences, and with a slew of his personally favored musical phrases; Roy empowers you to apply your newly found modal understanding to music. If anyone is confused, frustrated, and/or just desires to have a greater understanding of modes. I would highly recommend his new course, GUITAR MODES NAVIGATOR, to your library. As a seasoned musician, I found the course quite enjoyable, and refreshingly useful. I just wished, I had a course like this when I first started learning about modes. It would have eliminated years of frustration, and given me a huge head start.

Roy's Guitar Modes Navigator is quite simply the most useful guitar course I have ever taken. On completing the course, I now see the entire fretboard in a completely new and refreshing way. I feel much more comfortable playing scales anywhere on the fretboard, using the mode patterns as starting points, or producing the unique sounds of a mode for any key in any position. The course has allowed me to hugely increase my ability to express the sounds in my head on the fretboard. I can also now hear an artist's song and quickly understand what key it is in, what scale is being used, and what notes I can improvise over it. Roy's approach is quite unique in that he always comes back to practical ways to play the guitar. So, even though he clearly understands the theory in amazing depth (he went to Berklee College of Music), and does explain modes from a theoretical perspective, he focuses more on practical ways to play modes using pattern shapes across the fretboard. From this starting point, he then introduces concepts like chord tones, scale sequences, linear sequences, triads within modes and other musical ideas as a natural extension of the earlier ideas. It all makes complete sense. The course really has opened my eyes to how the guitar 'works'. Courses that introduce each individual mode can get quite repetitive, but Roy has avoided this by using really nice backing tracks that make the exercises sound very musical. I ended up improvising over the exercise backing tracks, because they sounded so good! He also introduces custom licks for each mode that really bring out their character. The licks are not difficult because they fit exactly into the mode pattern being introduced, but they are incredibly musical. In short, I cannot recommend the course enough!

I have tried learning modes before, but it has always felt overwhelming. Now i have already learned to improvise in 2 different modes for less than a week. Roy's way to teach is very easy to understand. Can't wait to get to the end of the course, to connect all the modes together.

This course is really good, especially on my level. You explain the theory in simple words that my mind can actually absorb. I read lots of theory lessons before, but this was my “Aha” moment.
