The biomimicry practitioner program was by far the best career and general life decision I have ever made. The program completely challenged the way I had viewed knowledge - not just the world.

Often, in career and academia, we are taught to reproduce singular forms of knowledge that are linear in nature - whilst most of the anthropogenic challenges we face in the world are often interdisciplinary and complex.

Biomimicry is a perfect response to applying cross-disciplinary and systems thinking to practical challenges that most disciplines cannot solve alone, moving away from linear thinking and into harmony with nature's regenerative cycles.

The program gives you the creative freedom to step out of restrictive thinking and provides a lens which can be applied in virtually every industry and role.

My project allowed me to think critically and design a portable, lightweight air pollution filter which could not only capture emissions but use the emissions as feedstocks for resource-intensive industries. It didn't take too long until I decided to expand on my learnings and apply systems thinking and cyclical principles from nature to develop my own start-up which draws its inspiration from industrial ecology - where companies can work in symbiotic relationships to develop more sustainable outcomes in their supply chains.

Before long, I was inspired by the way slime mould finds its quickest path to success by stripping away layers of hierarchy and allowing cells to self-organize, and applied this design to a digital platform.

I am forever indebted to the wonderful team at Learn Biomimicry - they provided a space to learn, reflect, create and innovate, these skills will stay with me for the rest of my life.

As Jess had wonderfully said in our final presentations, the end was really just the beginning, and this holds very true.

I am a mechanical engineer who recently started working in the field. I realized that what I thought engineering was in practice and what it actually is didn't align as well as I hoped it would. However after taking part in this course, I realized what engineering CAN be for me if I just approach it from the right angle and through the correct lens.

This course not only changed the trajectory of my career, it also opened my eyes and reminded me of all the amazing things that our beautiful world has to offer. I feel this has been the turning point in my life that I have been trying to manifest.

Being in this Biomimicry Practitioners Programme has been a very inspiring and enriching journey! Fascinating to see how looking from the perspective of functions opens new doors to look in a different, out-of-the-box way to your challenge.

The Biomimicry Framework is such a rich methodology to find mechanisms and design principles in nature that could - in my case often metaphorically - be translated into success principles for innovation in (collaboration in) a circular biobased economy.

It gave me new insights that I can and will apply in my work, further exploring this with production chain partners to establish a successful coalition in moving from environmentally damaging construction towards sustainable circular biobased construction. And I am sure I can, and will, be using it for other challenges in my work as well!

It was very nice and helpful to be able to have in-between-meetings with Melissa, Yuma and Jess to steer me in the right direction. Thank you so much for your guidance and knowledge!

It must be the greatest job of the world to be in the Learn Biomimicry Team and guide people from around the world to make their work and designs based on the wealth of knowledge and inspiration nature provides us!

It is not just about learning something new from scratch, but rather about reconnecting with knowledge from the past—drawing inspiration from our ancestors, indigenous cultures, and the natural environment. This course creates a strong and meaningful foundation in biophilic design, encouraging us to reflect on our relationship with other species and to envision a more sustainable and harmonious future.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme was a profoundly life-altering experience that fundamentally rewired how I view the world.

Instead of immediately hunting for technological fixes, my first instinct is now to ask: "How would nature solve this?"

Working in a large construction company, shifting away from a rigid, tech-first mentality is a monumental task.

This course not only empowered me to showcase the brilliance of nature to my colleagues, but also gave me practical, actionable steps to actually implement it.

As the Program Manager of "Nature as a Solution," these lessons have proven absolutely invaluable.

Perhaps the most inspiring takeaway was learning that even parasites play vital, positive roles in their ecosystems. In an era where humans are often cynically likened to parasites, it’s a beautiful reminder that we, too, can learn to create a positive, grounding impact on the Earth.

Wow, where to start! Kudos and many thanks to the entire learn biomimicry team. This programme was very well constructed, and well thought out. It reset my understanding of biomimicry and showed me that there is so much more to the word "biomimicry" than is generally understood. I thoroughly enjoyed the Biomimicry Practitioner Programme and it has been a point of inspiration for me to ensure biomimicry is a part of my career and life moving forward.

The Biomimicry Sprints program showed me how AI can significantly accelerate the exploration, discovery, and real-world application of insights from nature. Using Asteria made it clear that discovering and translating biological strategies into practical solutions no longer has to take years—it can happen in days. What stood out most was how Asteria supports discovery and brainstorming while keeping full control in the hands of the designer. A big shout-out to the Learn Biomimicry team for the excellent resources and for building a community where participants felt safe to ask questions, share ideas, and grow. One of the biggest gifts from the program was identifying a real-world problem I’m now deeply passionate about solving: the dangerous lack of traction on black ice and icy surfaces, which contributes to thousands of fatalities, hundreds of thousands of injuries, and massive economic losses every year. With Asteria and biomimicry principles, early-stage development and testing are already underway. Stay tuned.

I am an educationist with over two decades of experience in running higher educational institutions and leading diverse educational projects in India. By passion, I am also an aviator.

Deep within, I have always believed that nature holds answers to most of life’s questions. Growing up rooted in traditional values while also being exposed to global education has only strengthened this inner conviction.

Over time, I found myself increasingly disillusioned with current educational systems and their lack of deeper purpose. I began searching for a path that could meaningfully align nature with education and with life itself.

That search is what brought me to the Learn Biomimicry platform, and I am truly glad it did. I am also a doctoral researcher at Golden Gate University, where I intend to further develop and rigorously test a nature-based educational framework as part of my academic work.

The course resonates strongly with what I believe is the need of the hour. Through deeper study in this field, I aspire to design and implement a robust, resilient, and regenerative educational model - one that prepares future generations to engage confidently with modern technology while remaining grounded in natural wisdom, sustainability, and purposeful living.

Strategic Product Partnerships (and blissful biomimic)

Biomimicry is an incredibly powerful methodology to find proven solutions and create conditions for all to thrive.

In my context, it has helped me reassess how to structure strategic partnerships with providers so that, instead of change leading to broken relationships, change can strengthen the vitality between partners.

After all, Nature is built on relationships, on adapting to change, and on integrating development with growth (hello forests!).

Most importantly, there is no better team than Learn Biomimicry to take you from 0 to 1!

I personally could not have completed the program without their expert feedback and guidance, patience and support, warmheartedness and energy. They ensure you learn the methodology thoroughly while adapting to your own journey.

have only one recommendation: register now, otherwise you will look back with regret at a missed opportunity to flourish.

The Biomimicry Educator Programme has really opened up my eyes! Even though I had heard about biomimicry, I'd never immersed myself into it. Once I started with the biomimicry short courses, I got completely hooked!

The training content is excellent: rich, complete, nicely linked to what else is happening in the world and inspirational. Next to that, the simplicity of the portal and the beautiful video e-learnings make it a joy to complete it. But maybe most importantly, the humble, positive and encouraging attitude of the Learn Biomimicry team, makes this training and organization will have a great impact on you as a person and as a professional. Can't wait to bring this to our clients and my own friends. Thanks for everything and it's a real pleasure to be part of the (Learn)Biomimicry Community

Hello! My name is Nelson and I'm a material sustainability professional based in Colorado. I recently finished the practitioner program with an interest in a life-friendly chemistry fishing line. This course has not only brought me closer to the natural world I love, but also helped me to look at nature's design genius in a much deeper and more thought provoking way. I truly cannot say enough amazing things about this course, including all of the members and mentors at Learn Biomimicry who are all INCREDIBLE! How they approached, taught, and mentored the course was better than any university class I ever took. They were always happy to help and extremely insightful. Although the course itself is over, I've come to learn how infinite the possibilities and opportunities are by adopting a biomimicry mindset, which has set me out on a wonderful lifelong journey. A huge thanks to the Learn Biomimicry team, this course has changed my life.

I am a water and wastewater engineer working in the NGO sector, dedicated to protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable living.

Through biomimicry, I have learned new ways of approaching the challenges humanity face. First, by understanding the context in which these challenges occur, and then by looking to organisms and ecosystems that can guide us toward meaningful solutions.

I also use Life’s Principles as a decision-making tool to assess whether an idea truly creates conditions conducive to life, or whether it is simply another form of greenwashing. This skill is especially important today, as many businesses strive to appear “green” without delivering real systemic change.

Throughout the entire journey of becoming a Biomimicry Practitioner, the mentors were always there to guide us and offer their full support. Behind this programme is a truly wonderful team.

Transition Manager Circular Economy, Provincial Government of Gelderland, the Netherlands

It has been again a wonderful journey in this Biomimicry Educators Programme! Quite complementary to the Biomimicry Practitioners Programme I did a few years ago.

As a transition manager Circular Economy, biomimicry offers a great lens to let students think like ecosystems. During the process I realised the importance of first knowing nature's system rules, the Earth Operating Conditions as nature's laws for all life on earth, including us. Both in your leadership as in the circular economy.

The Life's Principles are a great way to formulate key questions for designing or evaluating a business model conducive to life ("Biomimicry Business Model Canvas"). Also the Ethos and Reconnect are very important parts of applying biomimicry in the transition towards a circular economy, because next to system change we also need motivational change, remembering we are part of nature, and nature provides us with so many narratives that inspire and give hope!

During the programme I developed modules on motivational change and system change for the HAN University of Applied Sciences, their master Circular Economy, which I will be able to implement as part of the programme in April 2026.

Looking forward to doing this! Grateful to Jess, Leigh and Alistair in providing feedback and support to me in this inspiring biomimicry journey!

Learn Biomimicry holds a rare kind of container ~ one where structure and emergence coexist, where growth is trusted, and where transformation is allowed to unfold at the pace life requires.

It models what it means to design with life, not just for it. Rather than simply teaching biomimicry as a methodology, the program created the conditions for life-centered learning to emerge.

The learning environment feels intentionally designed to be learner-centric, relational, and adaptive ~ mirroring the very principles we are studying. This made the experience deeply transformational. Learning happened not just intellectually, but somatically and relationally, allowing the material to be embodied rather than just understood.

Learn Biomimicry models what it means to design for life ~ and invites us, as students, to do the same, from the inside out. I was transformed in and through the process!

In deep appreciation.

An enriching and personalized journey the program offered an incredibly enriching and deeply personal experience. The mentors (Yuma & Melissa) went far beyond the typical role of a guide, actively stepping in to help me navigate the journey.

Their support was truly hands-on, as they not only encouraged me to explore a different path but also helped me to actively seek out and collaborate with partners. What stood out as well was their willingness to connect me with interesting people in their network, which broadened my perspective in a way I hadn't expected.

Who would have thought I would end up collaborating with one of the most prominent partners in biobased materials in the Netherlands? Challenges and lessons learned While the program's structure was well-designed and the overall flow felt natural, I did face some challenges. managing documentation and locating the right information was difficult at times.

I believe a unified digital environment for all program materials could be a great help in the future. The time commitment was also more demanding than i had anticipated, making it tough to balance with my full-time job.

However, in the end, the time and space provided to bring everything together proved to be sufficient. The most profound insight I gained was the realization of what we, as humans, are capable of when we pause and truly listen to nature. This insight came to me even without a background in biology or scientific research, highlighting the accessibility and power of biomimicry.

Very Thankful to everyone! I am incredibly excited about what the future holds and am definitely open to further opportunities for development within the learn biomimicry network. It was a pleasure getting to know everyone in the rhino cohort group!

Participating in the Learn Biomimicry Educator Programme has been one of the most transformative experiences of my professional life.

It reshaped how I think about education, design, and problem-solving. Before joining, I relied on conventional analytical approaches; now, I instinctively turn to nature as my first guide.

The programme opened my eyes to an entirely new way of seeing the world. I began to notice context, function, biological strategies, systems, natural designs, and interdependencies everywhere - across leaves, rivers, organisms, and even social environments.

This shift in perception sparked innovative ideas for my project and enabled me to weave Life’s Principles into a regenerative education framework. The Learn Biomimicry team played a profound role in this transformation. Their feedback was thoughtful, supportive, and empowering. They created a learning space that was both rigorous and nurturing, giving me the confidence to explore boldly while grounding my work in strong methodology.

The programme also integrated seamlessly into my life and work. Despite my responsibilities, each module felt energising, meaningful, and immediately applicable to my context.

By the end, I was not only inspired but truly equipped with a renewed vision, a stronger sense of purpose, and a project that reflects the true power of learning from nature. It has changed how I teach, how I design, and how I imagine the future.

Thank you so much, Jessica Berliner and Leigh Aultman, for your unwavering support. After years of teaching about nature, your mentorship helped me finally learn from nature and with nature. You made all the difference and continue to inspire me to trust in nature’s wisdom.

Ultimately, I now deeply believe that whatever challenge we seek to address, nature’s wisdom can serve as our model, measure, and mentor.

Environmental Scientist

I am an Environmental Scientist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I absolutely enjoyed working with the Learn Biomimicry team, especially with my mentors Yuma and Melissa, who did an amazing job guiding us and teaching us to design with our users’ needs, the local context, and the whole system in mind.

I really value how they kept track of our progress, provided detailed and honest feedback, and encouraged us to take our designs a step further.

This programme strengthened my commitment to a life-centred perspective—blurring the boundary between nature and society to promote human activities that are respectful of all forms of life.

After putting Life’s Principles into action, I found they are a powerful tool to bring into environmental management. They can guide the development of sustainable and regenerative solutions truly attuned to the ecosystems where they’re applied. In the framework of Environmental Impact Assessments, for example, Biomimicry thinking and Life’s Principles would allow us to integrate life’s parameters into the assessment of a project’s feasibility—alongside social and economic ones.

This would mean not only preventing and mitigating impacts but also supporting and actively regenerating the natural systems that allow all life to thrive. Throughout this 6-month journey, I learned to be humble, patient, and open to Nature’s lessons. I now see environmental challenges not only as problems to solve but as opportunities to design in partnership with Nature.

I also realized biomimicry is not only about designing but also about storytelling: translating Nature’s wisdom into narratives that inspire collaboration, action, and curiosity. Lastly, I am deeply grateful for the wonderful cohort the Learn Biomimicry team has built.

Peer-to-peer learning was incredibly enriching, as each of us shared our own vision of a sustainable world, bridging disciplines and bringing different perspectives together in every monthly workshop.

This journey has been a milestone, but also just the beginning: I’m excited to keep weaving Biomimicry into my work learning from Nature, and sharing life’s genius as an endless source of inspiration.

Above all, I hope to inspire others to join this growing community of changemakers working for a regenerative future.

Terry Smith

Founder, M-PowerHouse of Greater Pittsburgh

My experience with the Learn Biomimicry Educator Programme has been nothing short of transformational.

Under the impeccable leadership of Jess Berliner and her extraordinary team, I discovered not just a new way of thinking - but a new way of seeing. Their wisdom, intentionality, and deep reverence for nature opened a powerful doorway for me, one that has reshaped how I approach education, community upliftment, and workforce development.

As the Founder, President, and CEO of M-PowerHouse of Greater Pittsburgh, I am leading a multifaceted biomimicry initiative rooted in apiary science, myrmecology, and entomology. With our partners at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh Public Schools, and the research team from The Pittsburgh Study, we are examining how the ethics and organization of ants and bees mirror our own social, educational, and economic ecosystems.

The parallels are undeniable - how colonies support one another, how shared purpose fuels survival, how communication strengthens community, and how every member contributes to the prosperity of the whole. Learn Biomimicry gave me the language, framework, and confidence to elevate this vision. Jess and her team helped me coalesce intellect, ecological insight, and cultural relevance into a scalable model that can transform systems.

Their guidance showed me how biomimicry can strengthen a micro, mezzo, and macro workforce development ecosystem - one that is adaptive, resilient, interdependent, and rooted in nature’s successful strategies.

How Learning Biomimicry Helped Me:

Biomimicry gave me a third-eye perspective - not simply “thinking outside the box,” but realising that in nature there is no box at all. Everything is fluid, interconnected, responsive, and full of possibility. This shift expanded my creativity, sharpened my leadership, and deepened my belief that solutions to humanity’s greatest challenges already exist all around us.

The Best Thing About Biomimicry

Biomimicry creates change agents at every level. It teaches us to breathe differently, see differently, listen differently — and to become better stewards of this planet. Biomimicry is not a curriculum; it is a consciousness. It equips us to teach, build, heal, design, and innovate with intention, humility, and harmony.

How I Will Apply Biomimicry Moving Forward

I will continue integrating biomimicry into the lives of underrepresented students and families across Pittsburgh through edutainment, STEAM education, and workforce innovation. Our focus on apiary science and ant-based social systems will guide us in building communities that work like healthy hives — interdependent, cooperative, intelligent, and purpose-driven. Biomimicry will remain at the heart of our Cradle-to-Career pipeline as we strengthen the educational ecosystem and prepare the future workforce of the 21st century.

With heartfelt gratitude to Jess Berliner and her impeccable Learn Biomimicry team: Thank you for giving me the tools to see nature not as a metaphor, but as a mentor. Thank you for empowering me to transform ideas into impact. And thank you for helping M-PowerHouse elevate the voices, talents, and futures of the youth we serve.

I’m a Master’s student in architecture, exploring how built environments can adapt to climate risks. My current work focuses on rebuilding strategies after natural disasters and designing spaces that merge ecological intelligence with human resilience.

Learning biomimicry completely reshaped the way I think about architecture. It taught me to look beyond human-made solutions and instead observe how nature has already solved similar challenges, through adaptability, efficiency, and regeneration.

The best thing about biomimicry is its humility. It reminds us that we are students of a 3.8-billion-year-old teacher, nature, and that every challenge we face has already been met somewhere in the natural world.

It’s both grounding and inspiring. I want to continue integrating biomimicry into architecture, particularly in post-disaster reconstruction and climate-resilient design.

What I enjoyed most about the Biomimicry Confluence was how genuinely alive it felt—not just as an event, but as an ecosystem of ideas, care, and shared practice. Saskia van den Muijsenberg’s thoughtfulness stood out deeply to me—the way she wove personal experience with professional insight was such a beautiful reminder that evolution and mutualism are not just ecological concepts, but lived ones.

Jacques Chirazi offered such grounded inspiration. His reflections on innovation—and the reminder that anything is possible—carried the kind of curiosity and patience that biomimicry needs most. You can feel how much imagination and awe he brings to every conversation.

It was also energizing to hear from Ines Garcia, especially in how she’s applying biomimicry within business systems—working at the edges of organizations to help them grow more adaptive, connected, and resilient. It’s exactly that kind of edge work that bridges design, ecology, and leadership in meaningful ways.

I left feeling both grounded and expanded—reminded that biomimicry isn’t just about learning from nature’s brilliance, but about remembering that we are part of that brilliance, too.

If you get the chance to attend a future Confluence, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a heartfelt yet strategic space to learn, exchange ideas, and reconnect with a global community of people designing a future rooted in life’s intelligence.

When I began this project, being a biological sciences student, I had ideas and curiosity, but I needed a structured way to bring together science, creativity, and sustainability.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme provided exactly that framework. It guided me to observe nature closely, understand how biological systems tackle challenges, and translate those lessons into actionable designs.

What excites me most about biomimicry is how it uncovers solutions that already exist in nature — in rivers, plants, fungi, and even microbes. It showed me that even complex problems can be approached in ways that are regenerative, systemic, and sustainable.

The programme also taught me to think in phases — from scoping challenges and discovering natural strategies, to abstracting principles, creating prototypes, and evaluating their impact.

This phased approach completely shaped how I approached my project, giving me both clarity and direction. Looking ahead, I hope to apply biomimicry in my research and future work, designing solutions that not only address problems but also restore ecosystems and reconnect people with nature.

I am deeply grateful to the Learn Biomimicry team for guiding me through this journey, inspiring me to see the wisdom in the natural world, and helping me realize how we can learn from nature to design better, more sustainable solutions.

Fashion Futurist - Trend Atelier

As a Fashion Futurist working with brands like Nike and Dior, I thought I understood innovation – until I discovered how nature has been solving our biggest challenges for 3.8 billion years.

I specialise in Strategic Foresight and help organisations imagine regenerative futures. I regularly speak at conferences, guest lecture at universities, and have trained hundreds of professionals through my school Trend Atelier. This is what led me to the Biomimicry Educator Programme and I cannot recommend it enough!

For a long time now I have wanted to learn and be mentored, convene with biomimics to understand Biomimicry from the lens of systems thinking and education, and then be able to apply this to future foresight models, methods and philosophies.

In the fields of fashion, strategic foresight and the creative industries, we are searching for new ideals. And we are basing a lot of our thinking and doing on outdated extractive models.

I have so much gratitude to my Biomimicry Mentors Rebecca and Jess. The learning journey was transformative - and even witnessing how they teach was a masterclass in itself. Having a Biomimicry co-pilot was amazing too. This is a learning partner you're paired with from the beginning of the program.

Learning biomimicry has helped me break assumptions about the challenges I wanted to solve and think of solutions from the perspective of how Nature solves problems and adapts.

When you join the program keep an open mind as the practice of Biomimicry teaches you to frame problems and solutions in a completely new way. And I think today this is what we need: to break down our ingrained mental models and understand the world from a new perspective, so that we can help solve humanity's biggest problems, with the guidance of nature's genius.

The best thing about biomimicry is that it overflows with solutions, ingenuity, creativity. Everywhere you look when you research and learn is a case study of nature's intelligence that can be applied to design, innovation, organisational thinking, systems.

The team at Learn Biomimicry help you every step of the way in zooming into the core of the solution you're wanting to develop and in our cohort alone, I saw peers developing new architectural solutions, AI models, all the way to developing new business training programs!

Now that I have completed the Biomimicry program as an Educator, I'm publishing the learning journey I have created called 'Future Wild: When Nature Becomes the Futurist'. I'm planting seeds and am getting great reception through my newsletter and socials. Next I will host in person client workshops and a more affordable version as an online course. I'd also love to host a podcast series.

During the training I have built so much material and knowledge that I now have a runway and a timeline of how the learning journey will roll out, with the idea that iteration and feedback will be key all along the way, as this is how natural evolution also works.

The great thing is I will continue to benefit from the Learn Biomimicry community online, whom I can connect with to learn, exchange and ask for feedback.

I am so excited for this new chapter in my 25 year career and have gained incredible clarity from joining the program and following the six month curriculum at my own pace and accompanied with amazing people.

This was the best investment for my professional and personal growth I have done since University. If you join the Educator or Practitioner program at learn Biomimicry you will be in the best hands!

Every fungus, bacterium, protozoa, plant, animal, their interaction, and ecosystem is now a teacher, a measure and a model, offering strategies to solve human challenges in innovative and sustainable ways.

When combined with design thinking, systems thinking, and Life’s Principles, biomimicry provides powerful frameworks to reimagine and create a regenerative, responsive, distributed, and resilient future in all walks of lives.

I am deeply grateful to the Learn Biomimicry Team for transforming not only my perspective but also my practices.

Today, I confidently contribute as a sustainable, regenerative, and resilient innovation consultant. I encourage everyone - regardless of profession - to explore and learn biomimicry.

Rory Herriman, D.Eng.

CTO & Engineering Professor

As a technology executive and educator working at the intersection of systems engineering, digital transformation, and emerging technologies like AI, I’m constantly looking for frameworks that promote adaptive, resilient, and sustainable innovation.

Learn biomimicry has added a powerful new lens to how I think about design — not just in product development, but in organizational strategy and systems thinking. What’s most remarkable about biomimicry is how it reframes challenges. Instead of asking, “What can we build?” it asks, “How would nature solve this?” That shift unlocks insights that are often more efficient, regenerative, and elegant than traditional approaches.

I see direct applications of biomimicry in my work, from improving cybersecurity strategies inspired by predator-prey dynamics, to designing more adaptive, decentralized systems modeled after ecosystems. More broadly, it has sharpened how I approach systems thinking and how I evaluate innovation through the lens of long-term survivability, not just scalability.

Biomimicry isn’t just a design tool, it’s a mindset. And it’s one I believe the world needs more of.

Founder, President and CEO, M-PowerHouse Inc.

There are moments in our personal and professional journeys that leave a permanent imprint on the soul - moments when you don’t just learn, you are transformed.

The Biomimicry Educator Programme was one of those rare and sacred experiences for me. As the founder of M-PowerHouse of Greater Pittsburgh - a movement built to bridge STEAM education, equity, and edutainment for Black American youth and underrepresented communities - I have always sought to connect innovation with purpose. But what the Learn Biomimicry team gave me was more than a program.

Jess Berliner, Rebecca MacKinnon, and the entire Learn Biomimicry staff - thank you. You didn’t just teach; you implanted something sacred. You sowed seeds of wisdom that will bloom through generations. To be among the Quetzals Cohort - my fellow practitioners and educators - was to be part of a living ecosystem of hope, innovation, and global stewardship. Each interaction reminded me that we are not here to dominate the Earth, but to emulate it. And in the emulation, we discover that our greatest technologies already exist in the way leaves photosynthesise, in the way coral reefs filter, and in the way ants coordinate without hierarchy.

The Biomimicry Communitree in particular was a revelation. It didn't just inspire - it aspired us to think critically, act responsibly, and connect deeply with the more-than-human world. Like branches reaching for light while sharing the same roots, we became learners and leaders of a new kind - ones who understand that to evolve is to re-align with the intelligence of nature.

The perfect metaphor for what we became through this journey is Pando - the trembling giant, the largest organism on Earth, whose 47,000 stems whisper one truth: we are stronger together. Though each tree appears to stand alone, they are one. Interconnected. Rooted. Communicating. Healing. Regenerating.

This is the future of education. This is the future of humanity. As biomimicry educators, we are Pando. Our root systems are entangled across disciplines, across geographies, across generations. And like Pando, we are now responsible for defense, regeneration, and collective energy—not only for ourselves, but for the survival of humankind, animal life, plant life, and the fragile, awe-inspiring ecosystem we all call home.

I am forever changed. I am forever grateful. And I am forever rooted in this sacred call to action.

With deepest respect and boundless hope,

The journey has significantly influenced my perspective, altering my approach to design and enabling me to view life through a broader lens. I am eager to apply this knowledge in practice and assist others in learning from nature. I appreciated working through the various phases and learning more about our network and the wealth of resources available for developing engaging educational experiences. The 3 seeds of biomimicry will be top of mind, and I intend to integrate these essential elements into all aspects of my work. I will continue to seek inspiration from nature for design solutions and support others in doing the same. I am grateful to Jess, Rebecca, Alistair, the Learn Biomimicry team, and the members of the Quetzals – Biomimicry Educator Programme for your help and encouragement.

The Biomimicry Short Courses are absolutely inspiring, useful and provocative.

The application of Nature-based solutions are limitless. The worldview we have transforms completely when diving deeper in to Life's principles and it fills us with hope of a regenerative and sustainable future by addressing the real causes, by asking the questions of how nature does a certain function and by leveraging the right points that can really transform the systems we have created that are degenerative by design.

The framework provides useful guidelines for personal, community and business applications using Nature as a model, measure and a mentor.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme has been a transformative experience for me. Before the course, I had a very basic understanding of biomimicry, but the deep dive into its principles and real-world applications has helped reshape how I think about problems, both in my personal and professional life.

What I love most about biomimicry is its focus on nature as a model for innovation. It's fascinating to see how the solutions we are looking for in design, business, etc. already exist in the natural world, and this course taught me how to look at nature not just as an inspiration but as a teacher.

Now that I have completed the course, I'm really excited to apply biomimicry principles to my work in sustainability, and in my personal life. I love the fact that biomimicry encourages us to design solutions that are regenerative and beneficial to the whole system, rather than simply solving individual problems.

This aspect really appeals to me as a sustainability consultant and trainer, and I see opportunities to incorporate nature-inspired solutions to address complex challenges, both in product design and organizational strategies. I wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone interested in sustainability, innovation, biology, or if you are simply looking for fresh, nature-centered ways to solve problems. It’s an eye-opening and enriching experience that has already impact how I think and work.

As a proud alumna of the Learn Biomimicry Biomimicry Practitioner Programme, I love checking back in to see how this field keeps evolving. It’s like watching a forest grow—constantly branching out in new and fascinating directions. Biomimicry completely shook up my professional practice—in the best possible way. From the moment I stumbled into this world, I rewired all my consulting and business approaches to follow Nature’s playbook. And let me tell you, it works like a charm.

What I love most about biomimicry is its gentle, non-violent approach to problem-solving. When people engage with nature as a mediator, they open up in ways they never would otherwise. It’s magic—especially in conflict-resolution workshops, where deep emotions surface in a way that feels safe and natural. And in the latest book I co-authored with my friend Julien Leyre we investigate how ecotones foster innovation: so biomimetic! Biomimicry is woven into every part of my life. In fact, it probably always was—I just didn’t have the words for it before. Now, I do. And with its principles as my compass, I navigate my projects with clarity and purpose.

The presentations were very interesting, each by a passionate person. I had that feeling that all that I listened to had a strong purpose, and they shared that with us, their drive. That made their presentations special. They spoke from the heart. I especially liked Jay Harman's presentation, as he talked about the foundation of everything and creativity and peace of mind. The ultimate inventor.

I liked the Biomimicry Confluence in general, the people, the conversations, the incredible depth of knowledge and passion each shared. It was very inspirational and I cherished each moment of being there. Thank you so much to Jess, Ali and Rebecca for creating such a wonderful conference.

Middle School Education, Los Angeles, CA

The Biomimicry Educator Programme changed the way I approach my 6th-grade science curriculum. The structure of the program was concise, clear, and organized. The format for resources and submitting work was clear and easy to access. Over the course of the six months, I reworked the focus of my science standards to include WHAT we can learn FROM nature in order to solve current issues. This focus gave us a timely, tangible reason to learn the material from the processes of the water cycle to the physics of wind, air pressure, and elevation. Online courses can often be bogged down by too many working platforms and resource locations, but the process for accessing work was easy.

The monthly meet-ups, with the potential for more as needed, we instrumental in seeing how others were working, solving problems, and thinking. Jess and the team are very positive, understanding of life as it leads, and understand that we are in the beginning of a learning process.. and by no means the end of one. I also appreciated the open-ended approach for determining HOW you want to engage with the concepts. Most teacher-training programs have an end in mind for you.. this programme supports your individual ideas, and helps you engage with the principles of biomimicry as your guide, and not someone else's preconceived notion of how you should engage with the material. From day one, I applied the biomimicry principles directly to my classes in real-time. I felt supported in this "jump off the cliff" strategy, which allowed me to feel safe experimenting. This is just the beginning of my Biomimicry journey, and I'm excited to continue on with collaborators I've met, and ideas I've discovered. My classroom and curriculum will never be the same.. and I feel as if I'm producing solutions for our time, rather than miring my students in the daunting weight of what still needs to be done. Biomimicry offers current, and future solutions that add an element of hope and resilience to the intersection of human behaviour and natural systems. I'm grateful for this course and all I learned. I'm excited to see what others develop as well, moving forward.

I am a high schooler from California. I aspire to become an engineer. My Biomimicry journey in the past few months has been very enlightening. It taught me to keep our ecosystem in mind when pursuing an engineering goal. And that this is the only way we can come up with viable and life-friendly solutions. I would like to show my appreciation to the Learn Biomimicry team for this experience. They are subject matter experts and were very helpful. I plan to keep in touch with them. Thanks a lot!
