I would really recommend these biomimicry short courses to anyone interested in expanding your knowledge and thinking outside the box in a more harmonic way with the natural environment.

The course set is beautifully designed with amazing graphs, very well paced, and uses great examples to illustrate the ideas presented.

Besides being affordable. I feel very motivated to keep learning Biomimicry and to apply it in my professional life.

Biomimicry enables innovators to look at nature for solutions, which has survived, thrived and continued through 3.8 million years of change. The 3 courses give a great foundation to biomimicry and I have likely started a lifelong journey to learn more, as nature has already solved many of the problems we face in the future.

I am a mechanical engineer who recently started working in the field. I realized that what I thought engineering was in practice and what it actually is didn't align as well as I hoped it would. However after taking part in this course, I realized what engineering CAN be for me if I just approach it from the right angle and through the correct lens.

This course not only changed the trajectory of my career, it also opened my eyes and reminded me of all the amazing things that our beautiful world has to offer. I feel this has been the turning point in my life that I have been trying to manifest.

Hello! My name is Nelson and I'm a material sustainability professional based in Colorado. I recently finished the practitioner program with an interest in a life-friendly chemistry fishing line. This course has not only brought me closer to the natural world I love, but also helped me to look at nature's design genius in a much deeper and more thought provoking way. I truly cannot say enough amazing things about this course, including all of the members and mentors at Learn Biomimicry who are all INCREDIBLE! How they approached, taught, and mentored the course was better than any university class I ever took. They were always happy to help and extremely insightful. Although the course itself is over, I've come to learn how infinite the possibilities and opportunities are by adopting a biomimicry mindset, which has set me out on a wonderful lifelong journey. A huge thanks to the Learn Biomimicry team, this course has changed my life.

The biomimicry practitioner program was by far the best career and general life decision I have ever made. The program completely challenged the way I had viewed knowledge - not just the world. Often, in career and academia, we are taught to reproduce singular forms of knowledge that are linear in nature - whilst most of the anthropogenic challenges we face in the world are often interdisciplinary and complex. Biomimicry is a perfect response to applying cross-disciplinary and systems thinking to practical challenges that most disciplines cannot solve alone, moving away from linear thinking and into harmony with nature's regenerative cycles.

The program gives you the creative freedom to step out of restrictive thinking and provides a lens which can be applied in virtually every industry and role. My project allowed me to think critically and design a portable, lightweight air pollution filter which could not only capture emissions but use the emissions as feedstocks for resource-intensive industries. It didn't take too long until I decided to expand on my learnings and apply systems thinking and cyclical principles from nature to develop my own start-up which draws its inspiration from industrial ecology - where companies can work in symbiotic relationships to develop more sustainable outcomes in their supply chains. Before long, I was inspired by the way slime mould finds its quickest path to success by stripping away layers of hierarchy and allowing cells to self-organize, and applied this design to a digital platform.

I am forever indebted to the wonderful team at Learn Biomimicry - they provided a space to learn, reflect, create and innovate, these skills will stay with me for the rest of my life. As Jess had wonderfully said in our final presentations, the end was really just the beginning, and this holds very true.

Being in this Biomimicry Practitioners Programme has been a very inspiring and enriching journey! Fascinating to see how looking from the perspective of functions opens new doors to look in a different, out-of-the-box way to your challenge.

The Biomimicry Framework is such a rich methodology to find mechanisms and design principles in nature that could - in my case often metaphorically - be translated into success principles for innovation in (collaboration in) a circular biobased economy.

It gave me new insights that I can and will apply in my work, further exploring this with production chain partners to establish a successful coalition in moving from environmentally damaging construction towards sustainable circular biobased construction. And I am sure I can, and will, be using it for other challenges in my work as well!

It was very nice and helpful to be able to have in-between-meetings with Melissa, Yuma and Jess to steer me in the right direction. Thank you so much for your guidance and knowledge!

It must be the greatest job of the world to be in the Learn Biomimicry Team and guide people from around the world to make their work and designs based on the wealth of knowledge and inspiration nature provides us!

An enriching and personalized journey the program offered an incredibly enriching and deeply personal experience. The mentors (Yuma & Melissa) went far beyond the typical role of a guide, actively stepping in to help me navigate the journey.

Their support was truly hands-on, as they not only encouraged me to explore a different path but also helped me to actively seek out and collaborate with partners. What stood out as well was their willingness to connect me with interesting people in their network, which broadened my perspective in a way I hadn't expected.

Who would have thought I would end up collaborating with one of the most prominent partners in biobased materials in the Netherlands? Challenges and lessons learned While the program's structure was well-designed and the overall flow felt natural, I did face some challenges. managing documentation and locating the right information was difficult at times.

I believe a unified digital environment for all program materials could be a great help in the future. The time commitment was also more demanding than i had anticipated, making it tough to balance with my full-time job.

However, in the end, the time and space provided to bring everything together proved to be sufficient. The most profound insight I gained was the realization of what we, as humans, are capable of when we pause and truly listen to nature. This insight came to me even without a background in biology or scientific research, highlighting the accessibility and power of biomimicry.

Very Thankful to everyone! I am incredibly excited about what the future holds and am definitely open to further opportunities for development within the learn biomimicry network. It was a pleasure getting to know everyone in the rhino cohort group!

Victoria Casco

Environmental Scientist

I am an Environmental Scientist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I absolutely enjoyed working with the Learn Biomimicry team, especially with my mentors Yuma and Melissa, who did an amazing job guiding us and teaching us to design with our users’ needs, the local context, and the whole system in mind.

I really value how they kept track of our progress, provided detailed and honest feedback, and encouraged us to take our designs a step further.

This programme strengthened my commitment to a life-centred perspective—blurring the boundary between nature and society to promote human activities that are respectful of all forms of life.

After putting Life’s Principles into action, I found they are a powerful tool to bring into environmental management. They can guide the development of sustainable and regenerative solutions truly attuned to the ecosystems where they’re applied. In the framework of Environmental Impact Assessments, for example, Biomimicry thinking and Life’s Principles would allow us to integrate life’s parameters into the assessment of a project’s feasibility—alongside social and economic ones.

This would mean not only preventing and mitigating impacts but also supporting and actively regenerating the natural systems that allow all life to thrive. Throughout this 6-month journey, I learned to be humble, patient, and open to Nature’s lessons. I now see environmental challenges not only as problems to solve but as opportunities to design in partnership with Nature.

I also realized biomimicry is not only about designing but also about storytelling: translating Nature’s wisdom into narratives that inspire collaboration, action, and curiosity. Lastly, I am deeply grateful for the wonderful cohort the Learn Biomimicry team has built.

Peer-to-peer learning was incredibly enriching, as each of us shared our own vision of a sustainable world, bridging disciplines and bringing different perspectives together in every monthly workshop.

This journey has been a milestone, but also just the beginning: I’m excited to keep weaving Biomimicry into my work learning from Nature, and sharing life’s genius as an endless source of inspiration.

Above all, I hope to inspire others to join this growing community of changemakers working for a regenerative future.

I’m a Master’s student in architecture, exploring how built environments can adapt to climate risks. My current work focuses on rebuilding strategies after natural disasters and designing spaces that merge ecological intelligence with human resilience.

Learning biomimicry completely reshaped the way I think about architecture. It taught me to look beyond human-made solutions and instead observe how nature has already solved similar challenges, through adaptability, efficiency, and regeneration.

The best thing about biomimicry is its humility. It reminds us that we are students of a 3.8-billion-year-old teacher, nature, and that every challenge we face has already been met somewhere in the natural world.

It’s both grounding and inspiring. I want to continue integrating biomimicry into architecture, particularly in post-disaster reconstruction and climate-resilient design.

What I enjoyed most about the Biomimicry Confluence was how genuinely alive it felt—not just as an event, but as an ecosystem of ideas, care, and shared practice. Saskia van den Muijsenberg’s thoughtfulness stood out deeply to me—the way she wove personal experience with professional insight was such a beautiful reminder that evolution and mutualism are not just ecological concepts, but lived ones.

Jacques Chirazi offered such grounded inspiration. His reflections on innovation—and the reminder that anything is possible—carried the kind of curiosity and patience that biomimicry needs most. You can feel how much imagination and awe he brings to every conversation.

It was also energizing to hear from Ines Garcia, especially in how she’s applying biomimicry within business systems—working at the edges of organizations to help them grow more adaptive, connected, and resilient. It’s exactly that kind of edge work that bridges design, ecology, and leadership in meaningful ways.

I left feeling both grounded and expanded—reminded that biomimicry isn’t just about learning from nature’s brilliance, but about remembering that we are part of that brilliance, too.

If you get the chance to attend a future Confluence, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a heartfelt yet strategic space to learn, exchange ideas, and reconnect with a global community of people designing a future rooted in life’s intelligence.

When I began this project, being a biological sciences student, I had ideas and curiosity, but I needed a structured way to bring together science, creativity, and sustainability.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme provided exactly that framework. It guided me to observe nature closely, understand how biological systems tackle challenges, and translate those lessons into actionable designs.

What excites me most about biomimicry is how it uncovers solutions that already exist in nature — in rivers, plants, fungi, and even microbes. It showed me that even complex problems can be approached in ways that are regenerative, systemic, and sustainable.

The programme also taught me to think in phases — from scoping challenges and discovering natural strategies, to abstracting principles, creating prototypes, and evaluating their impact.

This phased approach completely shaped how I approached my project, giving me both clarity and direction. Looking ahead, I hope to apply biomimicry in my research and future work, designing solutions that not only address problems but also restore ecosystems and reconnect people with nature.

I am deeply grateful to the Learn Biomimicry team for guiding me through this journey, inspiring me to see the wisdom in the natural world, and helping me realize how we can learn from nature to design better, more sustainable solutions.

As a Fashion Futurist working with brands like Nike and Dior, I thought I understood innovation – until I discovered how nature has been solving our biggest challenges for 3.8 billion years.

I specialise in Strategic Foresight and help organisations imagine regenerative futures. I regularly speak at conferences, guest lecture at universities, and have trained hundreds of professionals through my school Trend Atelier. This is what led me to the Biomimicry Educator Programme and I cannot recommend it enough!

For a long time now I have wanted to learn and be mentored, convene with biomimics to understand Biomimicry from the lens of systems thinking and education, and then be able to apply this to future foresight models, methods and philosophies.

In the fields of fashion, strategic foresight and the creative industries, we are searching for new ideals. And we are basing a lot of our thinking and doing on outdated extractive models.

I have so much gratitude to my Biomimicry Mentors Rebecca and Jess. The learning journey was transformative - and even witnessing how they teach was a masterclass in itself. Having a Biomimicry co-pilot was amazing too. This is a learning partner you're paired with from the beginning of the program.

Learning biomimicry has helped me break assumptions about the challenges I wanted to solve and think of solutions from the perspective of how Nature solves problems and adapts.

When you join the program keep an open mind as the practice of Biomimicry teaches you to frame problems and solutions in a completely new way. And I think today this is what we need: to break down our ingrained mental models and understand the world from a new perspective, so that we can help solve humanity's biggest problems, with the guidance of nature's genius.

The best thing about biomimicry is that it overflows with solutions, ingenuity, creativity. Everywhere you look when you research and learn is a case study of nature's intelligence that can be applied to design, innovation, organisational thinking, systems.

The team at Learn Biomimicry help you every step of the way in zooming into the core of the solution you're wanting to develop and in our cohort alone, I saw peers developing new architectural solutions, AI models, all the way to developing new business training programs!

Now that I have completed the Biomimicry program as an Educator, I'm publishing the learning journey I have created called 'Future Wild: When Nature Becomes the Futurist'. I'm planting seeds and am getting great reception through my newsletter and socials. Next I will host in person client workshops and a more affordable version as an online course. I'd also love to host a podcast series.

During the training I have built so much material and knowledge that I now have a runway and a timeline of how the learning journey will roll out, with the idea that iteration and feedback will be key all along the way, as this is how natural evolution also works.

The great thing is I will continue to benefit from the Learn Biomimicry community online, whom I can connect with to learn, exchange and ask for feedback.

I am so excited for this new chapter in my 25 year career and have gained incredible clarity from joining the program and following the six month curriculum at my own pace and accompanied with amazing people.

This was the best investment for my professional and personal growth I have done since University. If you join the Educator or Practitioner program at learn Biomimicry you will be in the best hands!

CTO & Engineering Professor

As a technology executive and educator working at the intersection of systems engineering, digital transformation, and emerging technologies like AI, I’m constantly looking for frameworks that promote adaptive, resilient, and sustainable innovation.

Learn biomimicry has added a powerful new lens to how I think about design — not just in product development, but in organizational strategy and systems thinking. What’s most remarkable about biomimicry is how it reframes challenges. Instead of asking, “What can we build?” it asks, “How would nature solve this?” That shift unlocks insights that are often more efficient, regenerative, and elegant than traditional approaches.

I see direct applications of biomimicry in my work, from improving cybersecurity strategies inspired by predator-prey dynamics, to designing more adaptive, decentralized systems modeled after ecosystems. More broadly, it has sharpened how I approach systems thinking and how I evaluate innovation through the lens of long-term survivability, not just scalability.

Biomimicry isn’t just a design tool, it’s a mindset. And it’s one I believe the world needs more of.

Founder, President and CEO, M-PowerHouse Inc.

There are moments in our personal and professional journeys that leave a permanent imprint on the soul - moments when you don’t just learn, you are transformed.

The Biomimicry Educator Programme was one of those rare and sacred experiences for me. As the founder of M-PowerHouse of Greater Pittsburgh - a movement built to bridge STEAM education, equity, and edutainment for Black American youth and underrepresented communities - I have always sought to connect innovation with purpose. But what the Learn Biomimicry team gave me was more than a program.

Jess Berliner, Rebecca MacKinnon, and the entire Learn Biomimicry staff - thank you. You didn’t just teach; you implanted something sacred. You sowed seeds of wisdom that will bloom through generations. To be among the Quetzals Cohort - my fellow practitioners and educators - was to be part of a living ecosystem of hope, innovation, and global stewardship. Each interaction reminded me that we are not here to dominate the Earth, but to emulate it. And in the emulation, we discover that our greatest technologies already exist in the way leaves photosynthesise, in the way coral reefs filter, and in the way ants coordinate without hierarchy.

The Biomimicry Communitree in particular was a revelation. It didn't just inspire - it aspired us to think critically, act responsibly, and connect deeply with the more-than-human world. Like branches reaching for light while sharing the same roots, we became learners and leaders of a new kind - ones who understand that to evolve is to re-align with the intelligence of nature.

The perfect metaphor for what we became through this journey is Pando - the trembling giant, the largest organism on Earth, whose 47,000 stems whisper one truth: we are stronger together. Though each tree appears to stand alone, they are one. Interconnected. Rooted. Communicating. Healing. Regenerating.

This is the future of education. This is the future of humanity. As biomimicry educators, we are Pando. Our root systems are entangled across disciplines, across geographies, across generations. And like Pando, we are now responsible for defense, regeneration, and collective energy—not only for ourselves, but for the survival of humankind, animal life, plant life, and the fragile, awe-inspiring ecosystem we all call home.

I am forever changed. I am forever grateful. And I am forever rooted in this sacred call to action.

With deepest respect and boundless hope,
Terry Smith Founder,

Best short course I've completed in ages.

All information is exactly what I've been looking for. Namely to combine design thinking, disruptive design methodology, systems practice as well ecological design.

Content in this course is worth more than the time I spent on it.

The journey has significantly influenced my perspective, altering my approach to design and enabling me to view life through a broader lens. I am eager to apply this knowledge in practice and assist others in learning from nature. I appreciated working through the various phases and learning more about our network and the wealth of resources available for developing engaging educational experiences. The 3 seeds of biomimicry will be top of mind, and I intend to integrate these essential elements into all aspects of my work. I will continue to seek inspiration from nature for design solutions and support others in doing the same. I am grateful to Jess, Rebecca, Alistair, the Learn Biomimicry team, and the members of the Quetzals – Biomimicry Educator Programme for your help and encouragement.

The Biomimicry Short Courses are absolutely inspiring, useful and provocative.

The application of Nature-based solutions are limitless. The worldview we have transforms completely when diving deeper in to Life's principles and it fills us with hope of a regenerative and sustainable future by addressing the real causes, by asking the questions of how nature does a certain function and by leveraging the right points that can really transform the systems we have created that are degenerative by design.

The framework provides useful guidelines for personal, community and business applications using Nature as a model, measure and a mentor.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme has been a transformative experience for me. Before the course, I had a very basic understanding of biomimicry, but the deep dive into its principles and real-world applications has helped reshape how I think about problems, both in my personal and professional life.

What I love most about biomimicry is its focus on nature as a model for innovation. It's fascinating to see how the solutions we are looking for in design, business, etc. already exist in the natural world, and this course taught me how to look at nature not just as an inspiration but as a teacher.

Now that I have completed the course, I'm really excited to apply biomimicry principles to my work in sustainability, and in my personal life. I love the fact that biomimicry encourages us to design solutions that are regenerative and beneficial to the whole system, rather than simply solving individual problems.

This aspect really appeals to me as a sustainability consultant and trainer, and I see opportunities to incorporate nature-inspired solutions to address complex challenges, both in product design and organizational strategies. I wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone interested in sustainability, innovation, biology, or if you are simply looking for fresh, nature-centered ways to solve problems. It’s an eye-opening and enriching experience that has already impact how I think and work.

As a proud alumna of the Learn Biomimicry Biomimicry Practitioner Programme, I love checking back in to see how this field keeps evolving. It’s like watching a forest grow—constantly branching out in new and fascinating directions. Biomimicry completely shook up my professional practice—in the best possible way. From the moment I stumbled into this world, I rewired all my consulting and business approaches to follow Nature’s playbook. And let me tell you, it works like a charm.

What I love most about biomimicry is its gentle, non-violent approach to problem-solving. When people engage with nature as a mediator, they open up in ways they never would otherwise. It’s magic—especially in conflict-resolution workshops, where deep emotions surface in a way that feels safe and natural. And in the latest book I co-authored with my friend Julien Leyre we investigate how ecotones foster innovation: so biomimetic! Biomimicry is woven into every part of my life. In fact, it probably always was—I just didn’t have the words for it before. Now, I do. And with its principles as my compass, I navigate my projects with clarity and purpose.

The presentations were very interesting, each by a passionate person. I had that feeling that all that I listened to had a strong purpose, and they shared that with us, their drive. That made their presentations special. They spoke from the heart. I especially liked Jay Harman's presentation, as he talked about the foundation of everything and creativity and peace of mind. The ultimate inventor.

I liked the Biomimicry Confluence in general, the people, the conversations, the incredible depth of knowledge and passion each shared. It was very inspirational and I cherished each moment of being there. Thank you so much to Jess, Ali and Rebecca for creating such a wonderful conference.

The Biomimicry Educator Programme changed the way I approach my 6th-grade science curriculum. The structure of the program was concise, clear, and organized. The format for resources and submitting work was clear and easy to access. Over the course of the six months, I reworked the focus of my science standards to include WHAT we can learn FROM nature in order to solve current issues. This focus gave us a timely, tangible reason to learn the material from the processes of the water cycle to the physics of wind, air pressure, and elevation. Online courses can often be bogged down by too many working platforms and resource locations, but the process for accessing work was easy.

The monthly meet-ups, with the potential for more as needed, we instrumental in seeing how others were working, solving problems, and thinking. Jess and the team are very positive, understanding of life as it leads, and understand that we are in the beginning of a learning process.. and by no means the end of one. I also appreciated the open-ended approach for determining HOW you want to engage with the concepts. Most teacher-training programs have an end in mind for you.. this programme supports your individual ideas, and helps you engage with the principles of biomimicry as your guide, and not someone else's preconceived notion of how you should engage with the material. From day one, I applied the biomimicry principles directly to my classes in real-time. I felt supported in this "jump off the cliff" strategy, which allowed me to feel safe experimenting. This is just the beginning of my Biomimicry journey, and I'm excited to continue on with collaborators I've met, and ideas I've discovered. My classroom and curriculum will never be the same.. and I feel as if I'm producing solutions for our time, rather than miring my students in the daunting weight of what still needs to be done. Biomimicry offers current, and future solutions that add an element of hope and resilience to the intersection of human behaviour and natural systems. I'm grateful for this course and all I learned. I'm excited to see what others develop as well, moving forward.

As a sustainable agriculture researcher and consultant, learning more about biomimicry has helped me better understand how to integrate this concept in my research, teaching, and consulting. Biomimicry contextualizes learning from nature (versus about nature) to improve human processes and technologies to better balance our relationship with the natural world. I would currently like to apply biomimicry to better understand how nature uses fire to revitalize landscapes in a current literature review that I am doing for a working manuscript.

Completing the biomimicry practitioners course has been a truly transformative experience, both personally and professionally. As a medical doctor and researcher focused on sustainable solutions, this course helped to shape my approach to problem-solving; humbly designing with Nature as model and mentor. Through collective mentorship and collaboration with like-minded individuals, I gained both practical insights and creative inspiration, discovering how nature’s perfected systems can offer innovative solutions, particularly in my work on reducing water loss in municipal piping. I am especially appreciative of the Learn Biomimicry team’s adaptable and welcoming nature, which made it possible for me to balance the demands of work and study. Their flexibility in accommodating my schedule, particularly when I couldn’t attend cohort time slots, was invaluable in helping me achieve this milestone. The support they provided was key to not only understanding the concepts but also applying them in a meaningful way. This experience has marked the start of a new path in innovation and sustainable design for me, and I look forward to continuing this journey, driven by the shared intention to create harmony between human solutions and the natural world!

I have found learning about Biomimicry very inspiring. It opened my eyes to the hidden wealth of knowledge that we can learn from nature and the great opportunity that this provides.

Biomimicry offers practical applications and solutions to the various problems in our society I would highly recommend it's wider dissemination to benefit all age groups from the younger to the older generations.

My name is Cam, I'm a Liberal Arts Student in Guatemala. The last 3 years I've been exploring topics such as Design and Sustainability. Therefore, studying Biomimicry was the logical next step to me, to create a connection between those two worlds.

Throughout the course the team at Learn Biomimicry supported me and challenged me to get to new insights throughout all my journey. This course helped me to improve my skills in design and learn how to evaluate my design against the life principles to use it as a sustainability checklist.

If you are interested on Biology, Design, Sustainability or just a lover of nature that has a hunger to find innovative solutions, this is the course.

The Biomimicry Confluence was such an inspiring and motivating experience. It was so wonderful to connect with others who are doing this work.   What was most exciting for me is the number of people around the globe, in different professions that are doing biomimicry!

Since the event, a number of us who are focused on biomimicry education have been connecting and finding ways to learn from and support each other.

Built Environment Ecologist, Spector and Associates

Hi, I’m Cheryl Spector, an Architect and Built Environment Ecologist based in Denver, Colorado, USA. My career has always been a journey searching for how to have a positive and regenerative impact between our built environment and our natural environment, including the impact on the health of humans that occupy these built environments. As a leader in sustainability, I often thought we had found a good process, design, materials, or manufacturing; however, I found that most of these were not working as well as we need. I left “sustainability” and jumped into the practice of biomimicry, where I found the most amazing natural mentors! Although I got my first certification in biomimicry a decade ago, the Learn Biomimicry Practitioner Program was ideal for me, providing the structure and encouragement to pursue one of my innovative ideas that I had not been able to move forward with until completing this program. The Learn Biomimicry staff was exceptional in their support and guidance. I’m now moving from the threshold to opening doors for innovative bio-based materials designed to collaborate with the microbiome of our homes, providing healthy interiors for our families. I highly recommend the Practitioner Program to move your ideas to reality!

How are we creating solutions for a world in crisis?

We need technical solutions, but more importantly, we need a shift in the practice of “business as usual.” Biomimicry shifts our cultural lens. This helps us transition from exploitative practices to ones that support lasting innovation. I am curious how we can align human activities with the principles of nature’s reciprocity and abundance. During my 6-month journey to become a Biomimicry Practitioner, I researched the wisdom of the hive mind to build stronger, more cohesive teams and foster an environment of trust and transparency. Just like bees use their unique communication methods to make collective decisions, businesses can implement similar strategies to enhance collaboration and innovation. This approach not only streamlines operations but also creates a culture of inclusivity and reciprocity, ultimately solving larger societal issues by promoting sustainable practices and a sense of community. Embracing these natural principles can transform the business world, making it more adaptable, resilient, and socially responsible.

My role as a business humanizer requires being able to bring more human logic into businesses, guiding them to create meaningful positive impact in the lives of people that their products and services seek to serve, without harming people and planet. The Biomimicry Practitioner's Program had such a profound impact on the way I approach challenges and seek out solutions. Nature's genius is truly unparalleled and this program made me wonder why we very rarely look around us for solutions to our life and more specifically, business challenges. I was completely inspired by the innumerable examples of how nature addresses complex problems with simple strategies that do not negatively affect its components, far beyond widely accepted sustainability disciplines. Biomimicry completely reframed my lens. A life-long skill I intend to apply to everyday life, not only my career. From a career perspective, it has opened up a completely new line of inquiries and research in a solutioning process. As a self-driven program, I was impressed by how enlightening, informative and surprisingly collaborative it was. The Learn Biomimicry team and mentors were beyond amazing. Available at every step of the journey to guide, check-in and offer support where needed. I want to reiterate my gratitude to my cohort (the Hummingbirds), Jess, Yuma, Melissa, Rebecca, Deb, Alistair and the broader Learn Biomimicry team for the opportunity to learn and be inspired. If you find yourself at a crossroad in deciding whether to sign up, take the leap. You won't regret it.

The Learn Biomimicry Practitioner's course has been an amazing experience, opening so many doors in various dimensions. - Engaging with both the Learn Biomimicry community and individuals beyond its bounds provided rich insights into diverse perspectives on nature-inspired solutions.

Throughout the course, I gained a deeper understanding of the distinctions between biomimicry, biomimetics, bio-utilization, and biomorphism. This comprehension is pivotal as we transition towards a future driven by genuinely sustainable innovations, motivated by a desire for real change rather than need to follow policies.

Although there could have been more constructive criticism and not only unwavering support, the monthly calls during the course allowed for interesting discussions where we continuously learned from each other. - For me, the course seems to be designed more for the ‘intuitive’ applications of biomimicry such as products and materials. However, the mentors can also help you to dive deeper on the more metaphorical biomimicry examples.

I was already convinced about the importance and efficiency of biomimicry and I think this course is a great way to bring biomimicry to those that need convincing. It would be a great exercise for a team looking to bring new ways of thinking into their meetings. Biomimicry thinking is not merely a skill but a mindset essential in all industries. As I embark on my journey as a strategic consultant, I will regularly be looking back at my report and course notes in order to integrate this approach into my daily practice and share it with my colleagues.

My mentor's feedback guided me through the emulation process of translating the biology to the design and incrementing my creativity by following their guided process and structure which worked so well towards creating the final innovative designs inspired by nature.

I am so grateful to be part of the biomimicry community that Learn biomimicry offers and look forward to putting biomimicry into practice in future projects as well as the continuation of my designs that tackle the Sargassum Challenge in the Dominican Republic as well as in other projects integrating AI, Medicine and Biomimicry in my organization, MD Biomimicry.

Very inspiring course. A new way of looking at nature opened up. Since I studied this course I apply what I learnt to my private life, especially when going out in the nature. It gave me in the work the best approach and tools for exploring about technologies and materials. Since, I try and apply biomimicry learning from the nature I observe and even some ideas are starting to take shape little by little.

Despite lacking a scientific background, I found the Biomimicry Confluence to be remarkably inclusive and captivating. The facilitators asked thought-provoking questions during breakout sessions. The session durations, topics, and speaker selection was well designed. Being surrounded by such intelligent, optimistic, and thoughtful individuals was truly a privilege.

The Biomimicry Confluence was truly diverse and the pioneers of the field took us through the actual innovative work done and being done in the field of Biomimicry.

My area of research and work is in the field of SDGs, environment development, climate change and also see them through the lens of Psychology, Sociology, Botany, Ornithology and other natural sciences.

I have been active in learning about nature but biomimicry and Janine's book a few years back led to the Aha moment for me, and since than I have been immersed in learning more from nature and about biomimicry applications. Learning biomimicry through the three courses of Learn Biomimicry made me come in contact with the actual working of the fascinating subject and also briefly with Claire Janisch.

Many congratulations to the team for this pioneering effort and best wishes for the future.

Applying biomimicry to my life and work has been a fascinating journey. In my design endeavors, I strive to draw inspiration from nature's genius, leveraging its efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. Whether it's healthcare, transportation, or wireless connectivity, biomimicry offers solutions that align with the natural order of things. For instance, I've explored mimicking biological processes in healthcare design for more efficient and patient-friendly solutions. Nature's design principles have influenced the form and function of various products, creating a harmony between technology and the human experience. This course has been instrumental in refining my approach. It deepened my understanding of bio-design, providing a structured framework to integrate nature-inspired thinking into my projects. The knowledge gained here has been a valuable asset in pushing the boundaries of innovation, aligning with my commitment to sustainable and impactful design.

The Biomimicry Educator experience transformed my approach to creativity. I now see the world through a lens that values nature-inspired solutions, influencing not just my work but my overall mindset.

It has made me more observant that our best solutions often already exist in the ecosystems around us. This program helped me with a toolkit of biological strategies and principles that I've integrated into my course program.

Witnessing how the principles of biomimicry can be applied not only to technology, and product designs but also to processes, to daily behavior practices, and to human development has been a driving force behind my motivation.

The Learn Biomimicry team is super supportive and very professional. They dedicated very sufficient time to my learning journey and created an environment where ideas flourish. I have structured my course by embracing a biomimicry approach.

Upon completion of this program, I have gained clarity on my next steps, and it has empowered me to create a well-defined roadmap for the journey ahead.

The support from the mentors was phenomenal and I would certainly recommend this to anyone intrigued in Biomimicry!

I really liked this program because, beyond using the methodology to develop the project, I realized the importance of learning to observe nature and the connection we have with it.

We are all one, and it is this unity that we must communicate and teach to the people around us and apply to our projects. By understanding that we are all interconnected, we can develop projects that benefit all living beings, achieving the well-being and balance of the planet. I loved being part of the program and meeting people all over the world who are interested in the same topic. Through this network, we can collaborate and promote biomimicry in all sectors.

I felt supported at all times, both by the people at Learn Biomimicry and my colleagues, and I am very grateful to each of you. It was an incredible journey of personal and professional discovery that I will undoubtedly carry out in my daily life.

This programme has inspired me to learn even more from nature’s wisdom and genius, but nothing like doing so with guidance and using The Biomimicry Thinking Tools and Methodology. This has been a game changer for me and my whole team!

The discussions were always so rich and full of information, I would always leave the meetings inspired and feeling grateful for this experience and the opportunity to be able see life with a different lens. I feel the Biomimicry has truly changed my life and the way I manage my company. And I see these changes on my team as well. We are constantly asking ourselves: “how does nature…” This course has offered me a chance to understand so many different things and the inspiration to ask the right questions. It became clear to me that asking the right questions, it is far more important than having the right answer. I have also learned that disturbance is a creative opportunity, not a threat. And with that in mind, me and my team have unleashed a possibility of great creativity and innovation. Thank you!

If you're seeking a fresh design perspective, this course serves as the perfect (or should I say 'optimised'? - inside joke) launchpad for your exploration.

In the game "Who wants to be a millionaire", players can phone a friend. In our daily life, work and design process, our best friend is Mother Nature. She tested and improved solutions during 3.8 billion years. "Learn Biomimicry" is not just nice stories compiled into a course, it is a thinking process starting from Nature (discover and explore) to finally preserve it (at minima) or regenerate it (at best) while we, humans, do want to innovate. The course is inspiring, Nature is magnificent. Through the introduction course, I already captured practical examples on how to improve food packaging to minimize food waste and water consumption in the reuse/recycling processes.

I enjoyed every aspect of the Biomimicry Practitioner Programme, it was well-developed and easy to understand. The course gave enough information to allow room for growth. The guidelines were simple, the Learn Biomimicry mentors were very skilled and knowledgeable. They listened to my wide scope and complicated ideas pertaining to flooding, sea level rise and water shortages occurring in St.kitts, and guided me in the right direction to design an upstream and coastal area structure to regulate the hydrological flow.

The Learn Biomimicry team all bring such contagious positive energy that you can't help but share the energy with others even after the monthly meetings have ended. I am truly grateful to each and every one of them for their time and effort given throughout the six months. BEST 6 MONTHS EVER!

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme gave me ample confidence and design thinking skills that can be used for a lifetime. I've learned to look at each and everything from a different perspective and dive deeper into its function, strategy, and mechanism whether it is big or small.

A huge THANK YOU to the Learn Biomimicry Team, this course was awesome!

The Biomimicry Educator Programme substantially elevated my profession as an outdoor educator/Montessori teacher.

The prerequisite Biomimicry Short Course was a hearty framework that was clearly infused into the program and continues to be an excellent resource for me as an educator. The more I delved into each design phase of the program, I noticed a breath of fresh air into my work. I also felt gratification in seeing how my project was being woven into my work with my students at school. The applications I gained through the course were immediately translated into my work with obvious relevance. My students were overjoyed to do the activities that came out of my project that I developed throughout the course.

The facilitators of Learn Biomimicry are both professional and supportive. They are genuinely invested in our growth as biomimicry educators and are thrilled to witness our progress through the program! They are skillful in giving useful feedback and are eager to celebrate our victories. Networking with the biomimicry community throughout the course is nourishing and refreshing. I am so grateful to have met my cohorts and look forward to keeping in touch with many of them!

I now feel prepared, confident and motivated to branch out and grow my profession as a biomimicry educator. I also feel like biomimicry is much more accessible to me as a human being and a member of this ecosystem of life on Earth. I am so glad that I chose to join the Educators program!

As this course comes to an end, I just wanted to add a section to personally thank each and every person in the Learn Biomimicry Team.

This course has been fascinating to be a part of and it has reminded me of how perfect nature is. I have made mistakes but with your help and guidance, I have made it to the end. In this project, I wanted to prove that Biomimicry Life Principles could be applied to a current workplace issue where the goal is not to ‘create something new’ or ‘create something extraordinary’ but simply to improve on a current design and make it cheaper.

My mindset was, “If I could apply Biomimicry Life Principles to something as simple and uncomplicated as this, then I could apply it anywhere, despite how simple or complicated the challenge may be. I am proud to say that, despite my inability to prototype this design and bring it to a tried and tested conclusion, I have still achieved my goal.

So again, thank you to each and every one of you for creating/teaching this course! I am extremely grateful!

The experience I had with the Biomimicry Educator Program of Learn Biomimicry has changed my way of thinking in a way that no matter how many potential solutions nature provides; we can divide (based on the context) and conquer to reach out to the best fit solution to our challenges.

One of the many great exposures I had in this program was that I was able to identify and use resources near me. The other beauty of the program is that it connects you to people from every part of the world, the team, members in the cohorts, and co-pilots.

The Learn Biomimicry team members are very knowledgeable, super kind and extremely supportive in helping us stay on track. The program fits well into my schedule because of the schedule options provided and you can learn at your own pace within a month or two for each section.

The Biomimicry Educator Program was a truly exciting journey, from the initial interviews till the final presentations I felt part of a strong and supporting community.

The program is very well organized with enough guidance and enough freedom at the same time. It was amazing to see how different participants came up with different projects.

The program is also very rich in resources and materials. The time assigned for every task was just enough if you followed it in a timely manner.

It is an amazing opportunity that has opened the doors for new experiences and potentials.

The Introduction to Biomimicry course really helped me to build a more foundational understanding of the future role that biomimicry might play in the design world and systems thinking. Design practitioners might assume that they already know many of these basic principles, but this course clearly outlines the actual ways that one might bridge or translate possible ideas. Highly recommended for anyone in the art, design, or education field. - Abigail Doan

I recently completed a biomimicry course with Learn Biomimicry, and it was an inspiring and eye-opening experience. The course was incredibly well-structured and engaging, with a great balance of theoretical content and practical examples. I appreciated how the course provided understanding of how natural systems work and how they can be applied to solve human problems. The course has helped me think differently about the design of products and systems, and I am excited to apply what I've learned to my work as an aspiring impact-entrepreneur. I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in sustainability, innovation, and making a positive impact on the world.

The Biomimicry Educators Programme really helped me to explore truly connecting and inspiring ways of sharing biomimicry with learners.

Using the biomimicry design methodology to create the learning experience also connects one more deeply with the actual practice of approaching a challenge using the design spiral. The team of mentors were absolutely brilliant at providing support, inspiration and also in challenging us where it was needed. Working in a cohort created the space for the learners to share experiences, encourage each other, learn from each other and contribute ideas and feedback to a diverse range of project topics.

An expansive learning experience that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to incorporate nature-inspired innovation into their curriculums.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme promotes learning from nature to create more sustainable human designs. It inspired me to look at the world through a different lens. It was an excellent course with well-defined and applied biomimicry concepts, tools, and principles to create biomimetic designs. I learned to apply nature’s design principles, strategies, functions, and patterns to my design to create human-made designs.

The team is so knowledgeable and never failed to give me a nudge to dive deeper into the research. Designing with the Biomimicry Life’s Principles in mind definitely inspired me to continue my biomimicry learning journey and incorporate nature-inspired design into my daily life.

The Biomimicry Practitioner Program has been wonderfully inspiring and eye-opening! It pushed me to reframe how I analyze and approach challenges, which has been beneficial in my professional and personal life. Instead of jumping straight to the solution, the team encourages and guides you to break down the challenge and view it from multiple angles. Thus, you're able to immerse yourself fully, and you're given the tools to continue practising biomimicry after the program ends. The Learn Biomimicry team has been beyond helpful and patient! I'm excited to join the wider biomimicry network and continue learning.

The program was intense, with lots of learning on the concepts, the processes and the ways we could curate the program for the students we are working on. It also gave us an opportunity to network with cohort colleagues from across the world and gave different perspectives on the way Biomimicry can be taught to various age groups. Would love to be connected for longer with the team to learn more.

Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere. — Chinese Proverb.

For me, this is what Biomimicry is all about - keep learning and changing for the good. Nature's model of evolution keeps changing and adapting for the better and getting the most out of the available resources.

Everything that nature creates is the most that can be done from it without any harmful effect on its neighbours while the neighbours are quite the opposite. Nature's resources, learning, and the treasure that it has for the past few billion years are free. We just need to respect and reach out for it.

We, being part of nature have to follow its rules and act accordingly to thrive.

After 6 months of an immersive learning experience with the Learn Biomimicry team, I would admit all my five senses have gained a new perspective and appreciation of the natural world surrounding me. The systematic methodology employed for learning biomimicry through my chosen project challenge helped me assimilate the concepts quite well.

The "Challenge to Biology" approach was made very intuitive through the monthly check-in discussions with my cohort and the challenges from my mentor group were the icing on the cake during the programme. After a couple of decades in the management and tech consulting profession, I was accustomed to the famed MECE framework for problem-solving (that typically pushes for outcomes benefiting a single party - the payor mostly). The practice of biomimicry involves understanding and then applying nature's tried and tested (through 3.8 billion years of evolution) circular problem-solving methods and systems design principles, and considering the benefit to all stakeholders from any solution.

This gave me a new way of looking at everyday challenges around me and how natural models exist that have solved similar problems much before humans. Am grateful to the experienced team of mentors that helped me along my learning journey. I intend to take forward my learnings from this unique programme and try to refine and pilot my design for a sustainable urban food-growing ecosystem over the coming year. I also intend to use biomimicry alongside my data & technology background to solve other societal and business challenges around me.

Biomimicry has hereon become an integral part of my life.

Initially, I went into Mechanical Engineering in the hope of pursuing Biomimic Engineering since there was no degree for it at that time. The Biomimicry Short Course Set is exciting as now I am learning how to apply what I love (being nature) to what I have studied. Thank You and I am excited to learn more.

Thanks to the Biomimicry Short Course Set I have learned that more reliable design thinking can be generated by translating natural design systems. This course is a “wake-up call” to notice that our current paradigms require a “redefinition”. It’s indeed a fantastic tool to widen my perspective and approach design in a new way. It is a great reminder of how genius nature is, and how it can be an inspiration for extraordinary innovations. I can't wait to learn more!

The Biomimicry Masterclass is really a very good and inspiring short course! Very well structured, applying the information from previous courses into practice at systems level. I really needed this, as mostly Biomimicry is applied at product level. Through this module the application at systems level became more clear to me. It is very comprehensive and inspiring, and gave me new insights how to apply in my work.

I’m so excited to say that I’m now a qualified Biomimicry Practitioner!😀🎉 Six months ago, I set off into the wilderness determined (rather naively…) to unpick the fascinating puzzle of biodiversity in nature. All with the goal of helping #startups and #SMEs build teams that integrate diversity from the very beginning to create healthy, effective and resilient workplaces. I can’t wait to share the results of my project with you over the next few weeks! 😀🌱 I want to say a big thank you to our mentors at Learn Biomimicry 🐋 Jessica Berliner, Yuma Langenbach and Melissa Sikosana, PhD who were instrumental in guiding us through the biomimicry process and helped me hone my ideas... ...and to Sophie Wisbrun-Overakker and Stefano Semprini my fellow cohort members for supporting me along the way! This course has helped me clarify that #Biomimicry and #BioinspiredBusiness is exactly what I want to be doing. It’s given me the push I needed to start thinking more about sharing my learnings online for others to benefit from too. Over the last couple of years at workWILD_ltd I’ve built a tiny solo business from scratch - running online courses and workshops, speaking at conferences and collaborating with my first consultancy client (Karl Brown at Curv – they’re amazing – check them out! 👍🏻🌍) Talking about and reading about biomimicry is fascinating but I want to see if I can really walk the walk. Does nature truly hold the answers for business success? I think so… Now I need to prove it. Stay tuned for news on my current projects, hopefully some client case studies (cos aren’t we all desperate for some of those??😛) and updates on the daily challenge of bringing biomimicry into the mainstream business world.

The six months that I recently spent working on my biomimicry design project, as demonstration of my training as a biomimicry practitioner, was a rare and deeply-valued opportunity. I allowed myself to fully focus on the process, to fully trust my feelings every step of the way. And, in doing so, I repeatedly found an abundance of creative energy and enthusiasm for learning, just when I needed it, to continue the work. Now the project is done, and I have a (very beautiful) certificate to celebrate the milestone and mark the beginning of a new phase in my work - more to follow on the next steps there! Thank you to Learn Biomimicry 🐋 for mentoring me in this step of the learning journey. Thank you to Claire Janisch, my late mentor, with whom I began this journey. You truly created conditions conducive to life, with your life. #biomimicry #regenerativedesign #designengineer

I just finished my masterclass at Learn Biomimicry 🐋. The South Africa team connected to the Biomimicry Institute. If you want to learn about living systems. And processes. And form. Go there! Of course, I already knew a lot of rational information because of my decades of experience with the Blue Economy and regeneration. But if you just have these clear explanatory courses in your backpack, you don't need anything more. John Todd's ecological design is my favorite. Cleansing during distribution. But there are hundreds more examples... Exponential organizations. Distributive, digital access for all people (blockchain) combined with a deep understanding of ecology and biology. Redesigning is all we need to do. Wise redesign inspired by nature. We ARE nature. And we are on the right track! Please, don't doubt it... Courage is what we need... You will be so inspired by the easy explanations and multiple examples that are already happening around the world. And you just have to choose what it is you want to do practically as work. Be a designer? Be a civil servant? Be an entrepreneur? Be a communicator, mentor, educator, and hands-in the soil and feet-in-the-sea-person like me? A polymath and globetrot? The opportunities are endless. And your career, whatever you choose, will always be contributing to the bigger picture of where we're heading with our planet and humanity. Thank you so much, South Africa biomimicry team, Born Global (BG), Kimberly Samaha, and the interns of the Born Global Foundation. I love you all for the huge inspiration you are giving me! #education #inspiration #biomimicry

Sonja Donauer-Dums

Founder, Anthophila

I joined the Practitioner Programme to dive deeper and it was worth every single aspect, the time, the money, the thoughts, the struggles… With an output far beyond what I could have wished for I finished my project and my new company was born. The basis for my business. My purpose.

I’m a trained business economist and have a great passion for people, communication and organizational development is now involved in Biomimicry was the best professional decision I’ve ever made.

In regard to the course, all the material is designed with love, highly professional, with great pictures, an abstract design language that can be translated easily into every context and practical examples. The mentors always have an open ear, and the peer group is a helpful frame and a highly motivating travel group in this wonderful Biomimicry journey. It nearly feels like having new friends all over the globe because we all are connected by this wonderful approach. I could not have chosen a better way to learn more about Biomimicry. Biomimicry changed my whole mindset, it is nearly impossible to not integrate it into every single aspect of my life and career. Recently I merged my coaching techniques with the inspiration of Biomimicry and there is more to come. I want to distribute this powerful practise to all who might benefit from this mindset.

The first step is done, but the world needs more of this spirit. So please follow this call and let it transform your life! Let´s shape our future!

The Biomimicry Practitioner Programme was one of the best investments of time and energy I've made since completing my MBA program many years ago and provided exactly the immersive, applied, accelerated, and mentored experience I was seeking.

This Practitioner’s program has the depth of a PhD, the dynamism of a MOOC, and the interactions of a closed circle webinar – all in one within 6 months. I particularly love how the faculty is patient with learners through the program, and are always on hand to answer questions or share useful resources. I totally recommend this program for anyone who wishes to do any good work in this world using an age-long methodology that has been tried and tested by some of the oldest civilizations and inventors. As Leonardo Da Vinci says, “Those who are inspired by a model other than Nature, labour in vain.”

Strategic Product Partnerships (and blissful biomimic)

Biomimicry is an incredibly powerful methodology to find proven solutions and create conditions for all to thrive. In my context, it has helped me reassess how to structure strategic partnerships with providers so that, instead of change leading to broken relationships, change can strengthen the vitality between partners. After all, Nature is built on relationships, on adapting to change, and on integrating development with growth (hello forests!). Most importantly, there is no better team than Learn Biomimicry to take you from 0 to 1! I personally could not have completed the program without their expert feedback and guidance, patience and support, warmheartedness and energy. They ensure you learn the methodology thoroughly while adapting to your own journey. I have only one recommendation: register now, otherwise you will look back with regret at a missed opportunity to flourish.

The Biomimicry Educator Programme has really opened up my eyes! Even though I had heard about biomimicry, I'd never immersed myself into it. Once I started with the biomimicry short courses, I got completely hooked!

The training content is excellent: rich, complete, nicely linked to what else is happening in the world and inspirational. Next to that, the simplicity of the portal and the beautiful video e-learnings make it a joy to complete it. But maybe most importantly, the humble, positive and encouraging attitude of the Learn Biomimicry team, makes this training and organization will have a great impact on you as a person and as a professional. Can't wait to bring this to our clients and my own friends. Thanks for everything and it's a real pleasure to be part of the (Learn)Biomimicry Community
