The biggest shift was 'flipping the script' on the structure. Moving from 'problem first' to the SFB framework. Game changer!! Whilst it is still imperative to 'delve' into understanding the problem faced as a 'practitioner' but the empathy and influence comes as a presenter when the future is told forward. The one thing I will do NOW is to forever tell the love story and not get bogged down on the semantics of being significant. Its hard to deny a love story. No one buys a significant story if it makes them feel bad. Success for me is helping companies build a new story where working 'with' is important as the 'why'. No blame. No good vs evil. No victim vs agitator. Working together for a world we can all embrace. It is like attending a song writing course with Bruce Springsteen. No need to apologize for the fact that this is ‘beta’. It is outstanding!!!

This is the REAL DEAL on storytelling for disruption. I'm so grateful I read this book before I got too far. I've significantly shifted my narrative strategy and approach after reading this book. Highly recommend as a quick but meaningful read for anyone trying to introduce something big and new into the world! I considered myself a decent storyteller but as I read I realized how all of what I thought was common sense were actually a classic traps of bad disruptive storytelling. It helped me understand in detail the power of pulling with inspiration and not pushing with fear, of emphasizing continuity over change, and more - all of which are reflexes for many disruptors like myself. The author's elegantly weaved personal story lets him show rather than tell how good storytelling works and makes the book a pleasure to go through. Its just the right length for the ideas presented, without any of the unnecessary fluff of other books.

Bloomberg has been on a path to continue to improve their customer service through new senior level account management assignments. Doom, gloom and oppositional "Us versus Them" stories traditionally used by environmentalists appeal to some but alienate far too many. Michael Margolis hasn't got only the nose to write a compelling book about the heart (and art) of storytelling, he knows how to select his bibliography as well! From Seth Godin's 'Tribes', over Robert Dickman's 'The Elements of Persuasion', to Christina Baldwin's 'Storycatcher' and many more top references. I can not recommend enough this practical guide (only 66 pages of easy reading content) to any professional storyteller or person infected by the art of communication, because we've been viewing our world through stories ever since the cavemen era and still are, even more than ever before (remember Facebook, twitter).

Believe Me provides insight about the importance of using story to be heard and valued, whether you are a company with a brand, an organization with a cause, or a person with a purpose. This book is an incredibly quick read - less than 80 pages or so. It seems intended as a primer that inspires one to start looking at building their own message in a different way. I was impressed, however, that in this short introduction to storytelling Margolis included many helpful step-by-step questions to ask yourself as you go through each chapter. I found they helped me start applying this new perspective right away. Many of us are visionaries with something truly meaningful to share, but very few of us figure out how to cross the divide between having the idea and taking action to actualize what we envision. I found this book to be a good addition to my "toolbox," as it provides a new perspective and skill set for making change in this information-rich era.

This book looks at what's really going on below the surface and tackles the hard issues of investigating what people/companies really need to do to reach their target markets and/or to get their messages out. In simple language, Margolis reframes stories while providing common sense approaches to designing and building better narratives. He does this by teaching us how to "hold" space for thoughts and ideas representing very contrasting point of views. Last of all, Margolis speaks from experience as he transforms darker times in his life to transformational experiences. I would definitely recommend his book. Thank you Michael!

Steve Kress the man who brought Puffins back to an island off the coast of Maine was also a speaker at the conference. Michael taught us how to dig deep and begin to find how to build a compelling narrative that would connect audiences to our issues, mission and then prompt them to act on our behalf. He spoke to us, threw chocolates at us and inspired us to become adept at the simple act of framing the most relevant and motivating aspects of what we do in a way that specific audiences could relate to. A beautifully written book which did so much more than show what's possible. Story 10x also shows you exactly how to create and then become that Possible! The greatest responsibility I have and have ever had is to effectively communicate a larger than life mission to millions of people and then wait for the instant, real time stampede of feedback which inevitably follows. Honestly I am a creative person and a natural storyteller. When I entered the start-up world I felt like everything was about the bottom line, numbers on a spreadsheet, data, etc. Evaluations and Multipliers were the most important thing! However, for me, one of the most impactful pieces of this book was learning that success (getting funded, being profitable, creating culture, being happy, etc) is about being able to connect with others through sharing your story in a compelling way that brings ideas, people, and action together. The numbers are important sure, but how you walk someone through your journey, your vision, and make it a shared vision for the future is the key! I also appreciated the framework on how to tell your story along with some best practices and do's and don'ts. How language and communication actually changes reality and perspective. You can live and create your self-fulfilling prophecy!
