Pencil has been a gamechanger for me as a designer. I never learned how to use traditional CAD software like Rhino because it costs thousands of dollars and I didn't have time to spend a year learning it when I started my business. Until I started using Pencil, I mainly hand-drew my designs and then paid a pro CAD designer to turn them into 3D models, which was costing me $200 for each model. Now I can just build my models in Pencil without having to go back and forth explaining what I want with a CAD guy, and I have total control over the design. Some of my designs are a little too complex for Pencil because of their organic nature, but I've spoken with the lovely team there and they have told me about upcoming features that will make this part of the process possible in the tool. I also find Pencil wonderful for consulting for private clients. I often do one-off designs for friends or VIP customers, and with Pencil I can show them a fully functional 3D model instead of my sketches. BTW I love that the monthly cost is less than ONE design from a freelance CAD guy!

Over the years I have worked on designs via both technical programs (very difficult, as well as very expensive), and sketching options. Prior to confirming and CADing designs there is regularly a lot of adjustments required for customers looking at Bespoke and unique designs. All of this is incredibly time-consuming, and to now be able to access basic designs, morph to customers preferences, give them some 3D ideas, and edit from there has been a huge time-saver for me. As a very new Company, watching the regular updates, and having theteam that listen to customer feedback, show's Pencildesign is a fantastic resource for designers and retail stores, with major growth ahead for our Industry. It is also easily affordable for small businesses ,as opposed to the more technical programs, all of high purchase prices. The other major benefit is it's very easy for staff members to also use to give Customers a starting point for their designs. The technical and refined design aspects makes it a fantastic starting point for all designs, prior to committing to finalised CAD's. Cannot recommend this site highly enough!

Pencil has filled a great gap in the CAD / jewellery design market. As a small independent jeweller I produce all my products myself whether it be in metal or via wax casting, so when it comes to more detailed designs my work can be quite time consuming. Despite having some prior CAD knowledge, expensive software meant it wasn’t something I could afford or use in my business until I found Pencil. Printing through Pencil has not only sped up the process but guaranteed precision and zero waste. Using the stone setting tool I have been able to start printing intricate settings and designs and cut my production time down significantly (I used to spend hours on end building and creating settings and now I can do it with the click of a button!). While I have been using Pencil mainly for printing and casting, it is also brilliant for visualisation. Some designs are too expensive for me to print as a small business so I still create these by hand, however bringing the design to life in Pencil with the appropriate stone colours and cuts, proportions, and metals has been a game changer for custom based client work. If it is within Pencils design capabilities I am now able to offer clients a clear idea of what their piece will look like without having to spend hours on drawings. Finally, the team at Pencil are brilliant and really care about their product! On a few occasions I have run into some small problems and the team have been incredibly quick to help (and even implemented a brand-new feature to solve a problem!). Overall, I would absolutely recommend Pencil and can’t wait to see what features are released next!
