Just started Rock Your Role as a Salesforce Admin by Jodi Hrbek and wow!
Only couple of chapters in and I’m loving how real and useful this book is. I’ve been looking for something that goes beyond cert prep and really talks about what it feels like to do the work and it definitely does that.
Some gems to take away from the first chapters:
🔍 Asking “why” is your superpower. The best admins don’t just take requests — they dig for the real need. No working at McAdmins here.
🧩 You’re not a button-pusher. You’re a strategic thinker with a toolkit (and it’s okay to keep growing it!).
🙋♀️ Confidence grows with clarity — and this book seriously helps with both.

I just finished reading this book, and it was an incredibly easy and fun read and so relatable in so many ways! There are so many helpful tips (love the talk tracks!) and advice that any Salesforce admin at any point in their career can use and implement today. This book is a must for anyone stepping into the world of Salesforce and will serve well even those who have been in this career for a while. Jodi brings forth a lot of golden insights as to how to navigate this world and keep your sanity amidst requests, especially if you are the type of person who finds it difficult to say no or tend to be a people pleaser, or always excited to implement a functionality (it can get overwhelming!). I love the Talk Tracks, which give examples of how you can say things that will not only avoid friction, but also result to a more productive outcome. This book, while it has the Salesforce Admin in the title, will also be find a place in other roles, like in a consultancy, whether it be implementation stage or managed services stage. Highly recommended!

This is one of the few books that I can actually say changed my life. I’ve been in the Salesforce ecosystem for about 5 years now and boy did I learned a lot! I went in with an open mind and left thoughtful! The first few chapters were so important that I paused my reading immediately, and applied some of the concepts in an org I recently inherited! In addition, this is the only book that I’ve read all the way through, from the introduction to the acknowledgement and end notes. Jodi found a way to drop extra nuggets in the acknowledgement section (I noted a few names to look up later and learn from), and a lot of nuggets in the end notes! This has to be the Bible for Salesforce Admins! If you want to succeed in your role as a Salesforce Admin, this is a must have! I’ll be using this book as a reference going forward! I enjoyed every words, nuggets, and insights provided. Thanks again Jodi, ps I heard from a podcast interview, you mentioned you’re writing another book - I’ll be on a lookout for your next book!!

This book is hands down the best Salesforce Admin book that you could read. It’s valuable for beginner admins or ones that have been in the field for years. If considering a Salesforce career, it would be a valuable read as well. It’s practical advice could be helpful to non-Salesforce system roles too. It is Salesforce specific but a lot of the “talk tracks” could easily be transferable to other systems. The book packs the punch: I laughed, I cried & I smiled knowing that I picked the best career for me.

I've been in a Salesforce Admin role for almost 10 years and am starting a new job--this book was both helpful and reassuring for me during the transition. I will definitely refer to it again and again because of the practical tips and ideas, but it also provides great advice on setting expectations and boundaries that will help me to avoid burnout in my new position. Even though I have been doing this for a long time, this book really helped me by providing perspective on how to approach the Salesforce Admin job. The real life examples, gotchas and solutions are spot on and if I had read the book sooner I might not have had to learn from as many mistakes! If you are a Salesforce Admin or aspiring Admin, I recommend reading this book.

I can't say enough great things about this book! It is loaded with so much practical and concrete advice in regards to getting at the root of business needs, corresponding with stakeholders, salesforce solutions, and handling your workload in a healthier way. Not only does she go through these topics with stories of her own and real life situations, but there are excellent summaries in the form of Dos and Don'ts, Pro tips, and Talk Tracks (i.e. dialogue examples). This is a must-read for those that are newer into the Salesforce ecosystem to take what you already know on a technical level and move your career to another stage altogether.

So insightful! The work I’ve fumbled, the processes I’ve stumbled through, the explanations I’ve mumbled … Jodi addresses it all. I mean ALL. She’s clearly been there (as many others have), but she’s got this knack for putting it all together and communicating in a way that triggers “a ha!” moments and healthy introspection. In my roles, I’ve ranged from the solitary Salesforce resource within the company to Product Owner in a large enterprise implementation. I think we who manage Salesforce work will all find ourselves in these pages. As a doer and one who jumps in and owns my space, the content about Calming the Chaos is very practical and directional for me. This isn’t a book to read just once. It’s one to come back to time and time again.

I benefited most from Jodi's Pro Tips, Talking Tracks, and Pictures for Perspective. There are jewels of value-added information embedded throughout her vast experience with clients that clearly make her a subject matter expert. I finished this book with an innate feeling of "I can do this!" Whether you are newly certified, in the midst of certification, or simply scratching the surface of what being a Salesforce Admin looks and feels like - then read this book!

This book addressed so many day-to-day issues that Salesforce Admins deal with, and gave so much practical advice to help elevate your career as an Admin. I just finished it and now I'm going to document all of the earmarked and underlined passages so that I can follow through and implement it all. I loved the practical examples and suggestions on "how to say this.." sections to make things really helpful. I wish I had read this book years ago! If I was a college professor teaching Salesforce career, this would be one of my required textbooks!

I read this book as part of my preparation for my first full time SF Admin role. It distills a career's worth of wisdom, advise and practical steps to take into a very readable and well laid out book. Essential for a new Admin and I've come back to this multiple times over my first year. Have also implemented many of the tips with success. The only thing I don't like is the Title, which is quite corny!

Great for building soft skills! There's a chapter (10) on communication, but I find that communication is actually an overarching theme. Jodi emphasizes asking the right questions and even provides very well-worded questions and statements to accomplish information-gathering and setting expectations in different contexts and in a very diplomatic fashion. If you feel like your communication may not come across as confident as you'd like, try some of Jodi's suggestions on articulating your point of view, avoiding unnecessary apologies, and being able to say no in a way that helps you calm the chaos but isn't a complete rejection of the request. I had put off reading Part 2 because I don't have any chaos to calm just yet. There are, nonetheless, gems in there about realistic timelines, scope creep, and overall, it informed my understanding of what to expect in a job like Salesforce Admin. In my opinion the book shows how going the extra mile doesn't necessarily mean more work in the long run. I haven't been hired in Salesforce ecosystem (yet), but I volunteer with a nonprofit and read most of Jodi's book early on in my volunteer experience. I have found it very useful for gathering requirements, exploring and advising on new ideas for features to implement. Also, I believe it's made me more prepared for interviews. To top it off, it truly is well-written.

When I initially saw the book by Jodi Hrbek 'Rock Your Role as a Salesforce Admin,' on my LinkedIn feed, I thought it would be a technical book, mostly helpful for Salesforce administrators. I expected it to cover aspects such as technical best practices, nuances, and learning. I left it at that.
However, I have been reading some powerful posts by Jodi on LinkedIn. So, a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to check the book and just saw the sample on Kindle. I found very interesting 'humane' topics discussed in the book. As I am in India, I bought the Kindle version, and I must say, it is wonderfully written. Many topics here have been revelations for me. Although this book is written for Salesforce Admins who manage Salesforce Applications in an organization, the topics discussed could also be a great read for a Business Analyst (BA) or a functional consultant, whether it's Salesforce or Dynamics 365!
Whether it's a Salesforce Admin, Dynamics 365 System Admin, or Developer, the key challenges they face are not technical ones. They will figure it out somehow and deliver. However, important 'humane' aspects like managing relationships with stakeholders, the team, scope, handling tussles, etc., are the key concerns for most of them. All of these aspects are discussed fantastically in the book 'Rock Your Role as a Salesforce Admin.
For core customer-facing roles, such as Project Manager (PM) or BA, all the above-mentioned aspects are a fundamental part of their job. (I have also covered various topics in my book "The Real Captain"!) However, typically, for jobs such as Salesforce Admin, Dynamics 365 System Admin or Developer, the focus may not be the same, as they are always concentrated on technical aspects. Many times, someone in a functional consultant/PM/BA role in the project can always assist them with customer-facing aspects. However, this is not always the best practice. Individuals in these roles also need to communicate effectively with stakeholders to convey their views. The book "Rock Your Role as a Salesforce Admin" covers the "how" of these aspects very well. Kudos to Jodi Hrbek

✨ Have an Ownership Mindset: "It means you are willing to lead and innovate instead of accepting the status quo."

As for Salesforce Architect and 5 Star Ranger, I had the opportunity to read many books on Salesforce functionality and software development principles. This book is unique from much of the other literature I have read. It gives direct, practical tips on navigating your technical advisory role and a way to become recognized for your technical expertise. I can not more strongly recommend reading this book and learning the knowledge and practical tips that allow you to stand out and own your role at your company and in the Salesforce Ecosystem.

Getting certified as a Salesforce Administrator gives you a big rush of optimism that you can do anything - and you sure can! However, time is finite and this book definitely contains easy to use tools to help calm the chaos and prioritize deliverables that provide your stakeholders optimal value. I read this book under my Kindle Unlimited trial but it's too rich a resource to not have on hand - or in your digital library. While I was preparing for job interviews toward the end of my Salesforce workforce training program, a lot of the content brought "Ah-ha!" moments to me that I could apply during interviews. The talk tracks helped me form the answers to common interview questions. Most importantly, the more I practiced prioritization by confirming urgency and getting down to the why allowed me to focus on immediate business needs in a fast-paced environment.

Thank you Jodi Hrbek for teaching me how to 'speak' and understand #salesforce jargon & how to 'think' like an admin. Although I'm brand new to the Salesforce ecosystem, this book is teaching me how to better prepare & eventually serve as a Salesforce Admin who's a viable contributor and not an "order taker." It's important to use the proper terminology when transitioning from the military to the Salesforce community. There's numerous examples in this book but a few Salesforce / Military terminology transitions that stuck with me are: - Organization Structure / Task Organization - SABWA (SF Admin by Walking Around) / Battlefield Circulation - Domain Authority / Subject Matter Expertise (SME) I recommend this to anyone thinking of becoming a Salesforce Admin. It lays the ground work for how to approach your new job from Day # 1. And thanks for the shout-out to Veterans, Jodi! I look forward to implementing your Salesforce principles and guidance.

First of all, Jodi has been in the Salesforce ecosystem for over 2 decades and she's worn multiple hats over the years; admin, consultant, RevOp manager, program manager, success manager- you name it, she's done it all! This book is a testament of her industry expertise and insight. In my humble opinion, it should be a yearly read to stay on top of best practices and remember why we love Salesforce! All of the contents in the book are equally valuable but here are two things that speak to me the most personally. One of them is not being an "order taker" where you just say yes without understanding the core business problem and just taking it too literally. Sometimes a field they're asking for may not be necessary, or they're describing a business problem that requires something totally different. It's important for all of us regardless of our title (admin, BA, consultant, or dev) to get to know the stakeholders and the unique problems that they're trying to solve. Ask them questions often, demo early, and ask for feedback often. We have to own our own career and strive to be a trusted advisor who is a problem solver and recommends the right solutions. Another one is the importance of documentation- it sounds easy enough but a lot of us don't follow through unless they're perfect or thorough. Imagine going over a configuration that you did several months ago with zero description. You'll jump all over the place from front end to back end to figure out what it's used for and what it does. So for yourself and others, keep a habit of documenting the important things. So two biggest takeaways: 1. Think about "Why" behind the ask 2. Document! Document! Document!

Truly a practical guide for providing data insights and solving business problems proactively as salesforce admin in any company. Highly recommended read for anyone new to the Salesforce ecosystem or wanting to gain practical insight into gaining further salesforce admin superhero cred!

Last fall I was able to read an advance copy of this book (Beta Reader is the new Beta Tester!) and found it incredibly encouraging and helpful in thinking about my role as a Salesforce Admin/Business Analyst. The author, Jodi Hrbek, writes a lot of fantastic posts on LinkedIn as well that are thought provoking and useful at the same time. Like stop using checkboxes - Yes/No picklists are more intuitive for the User AND work better in reporting! One of the many great pieces of advice she gives. If you are looking to take your career to the next level, I cannot recommend this book enough. There are pieces of advice I use every day - my favorite being to not be more invested in a project than your stakeholders! It helped reframe my perspective on a project that was sucking up HOURS of time. I made the decision to stop the madness and step back, and it's still on hold a YEAR LATER because of the lack of engagement. Do yourself a favor and get this book!

I’m about to hop on a flight to TPA and can’t wait to continue reading the best “SF Admin” book I’ve ever put in my hands. I put “SF Admin” in quotes because while it is a Salesforce related book - it honestly is so much more. It a book that ANY and EVERY person in a technology related position could benefit greatly from reading. The soft skills presented in this book are priceless - what questions to ask (and how to phase them) when interviewing the business owner/user; how to get to the real “ask” or the “what” that’s being requested; why it so beneficial to restate what you’ve heard to make sure everyone is one the same page — I could go on… That, and so much more are the heart of what’s included in this book, and as simple as it sounds, it’s the information that everyone in tech can use to transform themselves into a better asset for their organization and for themselves. I’ve been in various IT/Technology roles over the past 20+ years, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jodi Hrbek for a number of years. I’m not writing this review because of that relationship. I’m writing this review because I truly believe it’s a great piece of work, and something that both IT folks and Business Owners/Users could really benefit from reading. I think anyone who passes the Salesforce Admin exam should read this book immediately afterward. It's easy to read and engaging. I don't want to give everything away, but it goes into the different hats you wear as an admin. It also provides actionable items to help you as an admin. A must-read!
