This class is fantastic ... I am 100% sure that I got way more from it than if I had to do 16 hours at a location. I took the course several times and kept going back and forth. I also participated on the online live trainings and challenges. This has been an extremely rewarding class. I have learned more in this course than I have in previous WFA courses run by the Red Cross. What made this better for me is the ability to review the material until I could learn it. Having to do the hands-on Assessment recordings and skills photographs really ingrained a muscle/mental memory that cannot be duplicated in an in-person class. There is not enough time during the in-person classes for everyone to have the hands-on experience. The Webinar Challenges were a great plus to make me think about the situations. Thank you so much for making this course available to me.

Great overview, I'm familiar with all the states, and thought I was completely up to speed but definitely learned a bunch of new things. Thank you for broadening my perspective. I've had mountain goats unabashedly come right in front of me while doing #1 in the Enchantments in WA state! They weren't aggressive but it's good to know they can be. Suggest adding a section on how varied the climates can be within even one state in the Pacific / west coast area. Friends I've backpacked with have learned the hard way that it on the one hand it can be non-stop rain in the coastal ranges - meaning hypothermia is a huge risk, but then only 2-3 hours away on the east slope of the mountains, in the "high desert" climate in WA and OR and CA, the more extreme temperatures in both directions, and arid climate are the primary concerns. Not to mention the flora and fauna completely change when one moves from west slope to east slope, so the varieties of poisonous plants and dangerous animals and snakes/reptiles change as well. What you pack, what you need to know, and how you respond can change dramatically if one just travels a couple hours west vs. east from Seattle, for example, or Portland, or Sacramento. Thanks for a great course! Mark V

I've taken Wilderness First Aid before, so this was a re-certification, but I feel like I was able to retain much more information and, because the course was not catered to my job (I work as a wrangler on a guest ranch in Montana) I learned about a lot more topics! Excellent course. I travel/live in an RV and volunteer at national and state parks. I would like to take more area specific selections. I just finished the Mountain West which was included in my packet, can I also take one that includes California? I am scheduled to be on a PSAR Mountain Bike team beginning November 1, 2023 for 3 months and learning more about local animals/dangers would be great. Really enjoyed the Wilderness First Aid + Outdoor Safety Basics class (with Southwest add-on). There was so much good information in the course, and it was all presented in an easy to understand format. I watched all the online videos as well as attended a webinar session. Was helpful to have multiple formats. Would have been great to have a transcript as well. I especially liked the scenario examples. Definitely worth the money and time. Everyone who spends a lot of time in the wilderness would benefit from this course.

Really well set up course. The ability to do it at your own pace is fantastic. Very informative videos and presentations. The skills demonstrations are concise but detailed. Getting to practice the skills and get feedback on them is also a great way to make sure you're actually prepared to do them. The medical scenarios were varied and interesting and gave good practice at analyzing and deciding how to handle a situation.

I loved this Wilderness First Aid course. I have been a critical care nurse for 10 years in addition to my other nursing experience and still learned so much. I needed to take the course for K9 Search & Rescue...this is one course that I am actually glad that was on the list. I liked that the videos were full of information and not "fluff". I will recommend this course to anyone, not just organizational reasons. It is something that anyone that spends any amount of time outdoors or hiking should take. I actually wish I knew/thought to take it before I started hiking.

This was a great course, I learned a lot over the course as well. Even when I discussed info with my husband, who is a doctor, there were things that he learned as well. The cases were challenging, and the active videos were very challenging for me since my husband is 6’5 and over 200 pounds. He definitely didn’t help, so moving him and rolling him was hard but I found good techniques. Some of the questions were tough because of the multiple selections, I think those were the hardest ones when they were all examples/multiple answers. It was a greater challenge than imagined, I thought I was ready for the test, but then I had to retake it. I think that was the best lesson overall.

I think MARCH will forever be embedded in my brain. My first aid pack has been refreshed and I'm ready to hit the single tracks with this knowledge. It was an excellent class and I've recommended it to other members of my upcoming multi-day bike trip and also to family members. While most everyone venturing outside has taken a first aid/CPR class in the past, it's important to take again because best practices continue to change.

Excellent straight forward course structure. Only did the WFA for now because that is what I needed for an upcoming work assignment. I will definitely be back to do my WFR and possibly even be able to do the W-EMT upgrade. A very good blend of both skills videos and text usage. Would recommend having your course programers enable this program to allow students to interactively respond to Dr Bonthius's questions during the video lectures. I have a great niece starting her university EMT, EMT-P studies in the fall in Trinidad, CO. I am going to definitely introduce her as well as my daughter and son to your training site. Thanks for the training.

I took an in-person wilderness first aid course more than several years ago, prior to becoming a wilderness guide in New Mexico. About a year ago, I decided to jump on board a seasonal guiding program and wanted to be prepared just in case someone really needed help. Had problems reading all the questions on my final quiz because of the layout of the page on my cell phone. I should have used a laptop, but really wanted to get this finished up before going to Antelope Canyon tomorrow morning and hiking/camping in the Grand Canyon Wednesday and Thursday. Also, the 'Next' button was hidden behind the Help button so had to use the sidebar to navigate.

I found the class to be informative and useful with re-acquainting myself on 1st-aid practices. I found it especially useful getting a better understanding of when to evacuate a patient. I appreciate the thorough delivery of information and the allowance of the student to take portions of the class at different times when it is convenient. I would appreciate more inquiry-based learning during the class where the instructor asks a series of questions with clever and memorable hints that lead the student to the correct answer. Humor and mnemonic devices may be helpful. The long periods of monologue do not hold the student's attention.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to touch us folks in the Mountain West!

Excellent course. It was better than the in-person WFA courses I've taken in the past. It had good graphics and examples, and interesting background information about the cause of the illness or trauma.

I like your coverage of all the regions. I have hiked in most of them and find your comments pretty spot on.
