I had been using Save the Cat Writes a Novel as a guide for plotting my sci-fi novel, but I was struggling with things such as character and setting descriptions. This course helped me learn and practice writing in a way that was digestible and fun. It really helped me develop consistency and it's gotten me into the habit of writing everyday.

This course helped me understand where I was on the right track and helped me correct other areas where my story was not moving forward. I feel more confidence in my writing, as well as satisfaction in learning that a road map doesn't mean standardized, boring or repetitive.

I write in multiple genres. I had a problem with scene setting and this is exactly what I learned in this course. I have a new perspective on the different aspects of scene building now. I loved this class. The writing exercises helped me work through the instruction by implementing the lessons in real time.

It helped me understand how to better develop some of the ideas I already had written in my masterlist.

My biggest challenge before taking this course was how to make my scenes come alive and move the story forward. Jordan did an amazing job breaking down all the components in easy to understand ways. The course went at a great pace and didn’t overload you with information while still giving great examples!

I had so many ah-ha moments throughout this course when I discovered where my memoir organically hits most of the beats. Some were in places I didn’t expect (for example, realizing the scene I thought was my ‘all is lost’ moment is actually the ‘dark night of the soul’). The course also made me think long and hard about my wants vs needs as the hero which can be tricky in memoir, as well as where and how to demonstrate these in the story, which will help immeasurably in the revision process.

Thanks to this course, I started working on a “problem” project and organized another writing space I hadn’t used before! This was a very inspiring and informative work of art!
