Trying to revive my daily writing routine and joined Jessica Brody’s Writing Mastery Academy and I wish I would’ve joined this two years ago!!!

Drafting my first novel in November 2022 during NaNoWriMo was fun and easy. It wasn't until I started revising that I realized I had no idea what I was doing. I immersed myself in WMA courses while attacking revisions. I learned so much from every course and my story got better and better! But, I found my scenes meandered, even though I thought I was applying what I was learning from courses and webinars. It wasn't until I took Jordan's Scene Crafting course that things came together. Now, before beginning a scene revision (yes, it's 10 months later - a lot to learn), I outline the scene in the notes section of Scrivener for the given scene. I'm using a combination of Jordan's four-part scene structure and Lisa Cron's Cause & Effect structure. It's been so much easier to write scenes that are well paced, maintain tension, and move the story along in alignment with the 15 Beats I created using Jessica Brody's Save the Cat structure. I was initially concerned that all this structure would inhibit creativity, but I think it's been the opposite. I feel more creative! Perhaps it's because I'm not trying to create the story while trying to tell it.

In WM courses... I find that I generate characters, situations, and other ideas that I end up incorporating into my own fiction. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
